how I learned to not hate auto start-stop
The 911 is the first car I have owned where start/stop (eco mode) could not be set to “off” by default. I have gone through the 7 stages of grief (yes there are really only 5 stages of grief but I like having 7 gears so I added 2):
- Awareness: “whoa, did the car just stall? Oh yeah, eco mode”
- Discovery: “Okay, button on the console turns it off. Cool.”
- Denial: “so I can’t turn this so-called feature off by default? That can’t be true, (fade to Google)”
- Anger: “WTF”
- Negotiation (Porsche SA): “Come on, I know you can do it with you diagnostic computer. Nobody needs to know”
- Accommodation: “Well at least I can turn it off with Individual mode”
- Acceptance: “Maybe this thing isn’t so bad after all
The feature that got me to accept start/stop is the coasting mode that is also enabled. I started with baby steps, leaving start/stop activated while on the freeway to maximize mileage using all the tools they give me. Coast mode is pretty neat and I’m constantly surprised by the lack of rolling resistance at speed in these cars. Then I stepped up to leaving it active around town, mostly on the morning school run to drop off my kids. The feature itself is pretty responsive and the detail about “the vehicle was driven at speed above 1mph for more than 1.5 seconds” is what makes the start/stop manageable in stopsign traffic where you are creeping forward one vehicle at a time. All things considered, I don’t mind having this active but I do have my Individual mode setup to turn it off (and only this) and the majority of the time I do drive with it off.

Yeah I get it....I have a 991.2 Manual so there is no use for me at all for this function. I have to turn it off every time I start the car now.... Different than my 981 and 991.1s. It is really annoying.
My wife just yesterday said: "Efficiency for the car, inefficiency for the human". Truth.

RX: Sequence of events for avoidance of possible mental or gastrointestinal stress secondary to auto start-stop function in 991.2s
1. Get in the car and shut door
2. Belt up
3. Turn on ignition with the left hand
4. Rotate steering selector **** quarter of a turn clock wise to "sport"
5. Settle in, have a wide grin and enjoy
For best effect, carry out procedures 3. and 4. within 5 seconds of each other
The above should cure any ills related to the start-Stop function. Note: writer not responsible for any untoward consequences or effects ( joy, elation or otherwise) of the aforementioned sequence!!!

Exactly. Problem is, you still have to push a button (Sport or Sport+) to "turn off Start/Stop." What needs to be enabled is Sport+ as Default. Then you'd have to push buttons to tell the car you wanted to engage "Normal", which would be renamed "Leisure". It could include front bumper-mounted Red-to-Green light sensors so you could enjoy your phone at all the lights without holding people up for more than five seconds when it went green.
I just hit "sport" button every time I start my car. Activates sport, exhaust and kills auto start/stop. On the other hand, next time you're in stop and go traffic look at all the cars just idling/wasting fuel and creating emissions . I'm still turning mine off but would probably save lots of fuel all together.
My GTS is a daily driver for me and on most days I just want to get from A to B. The thrill of fast high rev shifts and loud exhaust is fun at the track and on dedicated drives, but around town it gets a little old. On the other hand, my kids do like it when I pick them up from their schools in my Cobra and we make a game of how many car alarms we can set off of the way home.
