Has anyone done a CarPlay retrofit / Headunit replacement for 991.1

See that little doohickey I've circled in red? If you press and hold and then drag it, can you adjust the relative sizes of the two windows? Some versions of Android allow this, but not all. It's probably less useful on a 'tall' screen like the CHSTEK than on a wide screen like mine.

Updated CHSTEK guide published
I've just published an update to include the CarPlay insight from @jadski and I have also added step by step instructions for changing the boot animation.

Great guide, but quick question. Guide applies fully to model 7862, but Alipay offers 5 versions of 7862 (denominated A through E). Which version did you use and do you know the differences?

Members choosing the CHSTEK or Erisin units also benefit from the combined experience contained in the Guide, plus hands-on experience from users who have installed the units and suiccessfully configured them.

Andy2111 or ZedZed, I've installed 3 NM Automotive units to get CarPlay functionality in Porsches with PCM 3 series head units. All are satisfactory, albeit with occasional connection issues. These are Apple CarPlay oriented, and work with the OEM head unit, installing boxes behind the dash to do their job. They also accept rear camera feeds using a native reverse gear trigger, which is nice. I've just purchased another 2016 Porsche with the OEM head unit and am curious about a CHSTEK head unit instead of the NM Automotive plug and play boxes. Which CHSTEK model is for CarPlay and has the most memory/chip speed? Do you have a guide for the CarPlay units?
Many thanks.

The PCM is terribly outdated, and not to mention, the sound quality is awful compare to these Android HU. My Bose system actually sounds like a Bose now.

In fact the all those extender box are running some variant of linux/android OS on them, and is doing the same thing as the Carlink app on these Android headunits to make all the CraPlay or AndroidAuto connections.

You will see a specific section in the guide for setting up Carplay and if you review the last 10 days of posts there is a lot of detail and pictures. I summarised the carplay setup in the update to the guide that I published yesterday.
I recommend reading through to get some background on model selection, the installation process and what you lose by removing PCM (nothing significant IMO)
If you have any questions after that then post here and we'll try to help

Having listened to both the PCM and the Chstek IMO there is a significant improvement in sound quality with the Chstek
Not going to get into a war of words over it as all opinions are valid, but I am delighted with the improvement of the sound quality.

Sorry you disagree. I just installed this and the audio quality is night and day. It uses the same factory fiber optics connections to the Bose amp and speakers. But I agree, sound is subjective, the factory sound may sound better to some. The 991.1 PCM Bose sounds like crap compare to one of the BASE MODEL eGolf I test drove. But then the 991.1 was launched over a decade ago, so I am not suprise the system isn't as good.
