Let me summarize.
It's not a bad car. It pissed a lot of people off who didn't get one AND before the manual GT3 was announced.
It's a 250k car bottom line at best
UNEQUIVOCALLY Gt3.2 IS A BETTER CAR WITH MANUAL.

[quote=destaccado]Not really. We've all got Google and the search box here;

Came back from driving R. Read this and understood that I wasted my time. I too have Google. Could’ve simply searched what it’s like to drive R

^Hey Doc ever heard of this OP dealer dude ? I never have; his location posted is a couple of blocks west of broadway in the heart of crack hood Riveria Beach . I think he's an inter-net broker who really owes no inventory , check the list of supposed cars in inventory or sold , slightly sketchy
and this thread has such legs

Cool. You've told us all how great it is to drive the R over the new GT3 because those people with the R aren't driving a GT3 with a douchey wing. My only question is, at any point were the paparazzi following you?

Honestly though, it's comical watching you talk in circles to defend your R.

"The sour grapes song of those who did not or could not get the car got old. Get over it. Drive what you can and enjoy it."
Since you own both a 997 RS 4.0 and an R; and both of them are in the same arena price-wise; did you ever stop to wonder why no one here has mentioned any sour grapes about the 997 RS 4.0 and only about the R? I mean, if what you said was true wouldn't we be complaining about the 997 RS 4.0 in the same manner?

I'll freely admit -- I am jealous of everyone that has a 997 RS 4.0. I couldn't afford it back in 2011 and I can't afford 500k now without stretching past where I want to. There's no sour grapes about it though. Just like there's no sour grapes about the R; I just honestly think that at 400k it's one of the most overrated Porsches ever built and that the true value should be closer to 250. ...and guess what -- even at 250 I wouldn't buy it unless there was a flipping opportunity because I prefer the motor in the new GT3 and ideally I'll end up with a 991.2 GT3 RS allocation, a manual transmission and a douchey wing.

Go drive your R and stop worrying about us peasants laughing about it being labeled a "blow-out deal" at 409k. You can clearly afford it anyways.

To be fair, the R does have different tuning as compared to the other 991 GT cars, which accounts for it having a different feel. Some people may prefer that feel and therefore prefer the R over those other cars. But different tuning costs Porsche almost nothing and doesn't justify a higher price tag. Moreover, many may prefer the feel of the other GT cars such as the .2 GT3, and that car also has what appears to be a better engine and will offer essentially the same manual as the R.

There's a valid argument for preferring the R over the other GT cars, but there's no valid argument for a valuation far above MSRP, and I predict that the market will eventually come to see that. Someone who overpays for an R may come to regret it, unless they don't care about the financial aspect and just want an R. An R purchased at MSRP will likely continue to be a good investment.

Exactly. It's good for the people that thought they were wealthy till they realized they couldn't get an R to have a place to come and vent.

So you're saying it's a smart buy to pay 2-3x MSRP on a new car because of the hype?

If that's what's classified as having smarts and wealth, I must have missed that class.

I would BET most "wealthy" people would scoff at such an idiotic purchase.

Yes, and it's also good for those wealthy enough to drop a $300k premium on a serving of Porsche kool-aid. Win-win! Would be a shame to lock it, was my point.
