Just a strange structure poking out of some tar and surrounded by sabertooth cats and dire wolves a few hours south (they're like regular wolves, but dire). Apparently there's a big controversy in the architecture/museum worlds about it.

To continue living the good Porsche life, use a magnet to sweep your driveway after having a roof removed.

OH that.
I thought u were talking about a new Porsche I am unaware of hahaha

well. take it with grain of salt as I have not won the Pritzker Prize yet

1. I don't think he really designed it to what he wants (SF MOMA has zero resemblance to what Mario Botta showed us when he originally designed.... ). these projects are very political and if you think tmo's **** show (general election) is political, hahaha, you have no idea what designing public project is like. I much rather put my family jewels in the vitamix and call it a day.
2. as a structure, depends on your take (are you sensitive to site: I don't care about site... are you a modernist: that is so yesterday.... blah blah, so to fully discuss it as "architecture" I would melt the internet. but if you buy me dinner at kirala, we can chat until your wallet is empty
3. as a museum, from my initial look, it doesn't work. it is similar to High Museum in ATL by R Meier (big name big name). but the amount of lighting that comes in degrades all the $$$ paintings so much so they cannot be displayed (not sure this is public knowledge. but one of my thesis prof had to FIX that prob)... however that was 20-30 years ago. who knows maybe LACMA has new age stuff that can control UV despite the amount of glazing the drawings showed. but honestly one does not look at painting under natural light. that is not optimal lighting.
4. if you want WOW, well that saucer is sticking out for sure. if you want to be sympathetic to the setting.... as much as I think Prince is gold, he prolly won't do well mingling within B's 5th symphony...
5. but on the surface it's successful b/c it's public and we are even talking about it here on a porsche forum!

I did recall years ago it was to be one level so that there's no implied hierarchy of art pieces, you know like : Mooty > Picasso > van Gough > Mondrian ..... so full of BS and as political in a difference sense as political can be....

ok, I must be boring regular sane ppl to death now.

Super interesting analysis on all aspects and more fun to read than the op-eds I've seen on the subject. (Though it was funny that one art critic dug up an interview Zumthor did with a newspaper in Zurich, to try to divine his design intentions). Focusing on practicality, I agree that a bright point source isn't the best for viewing artwork, despite the mod fetish for natural light. I'll have to take you up on Kirala sometime for your full story on "architecture" in the philosophical sense.

This is to say, I'm sure the new LACMA model will be a blast to drive on Mulholland.

Day two of roof project, I found 6 more nails in the driveway, but safely made it out to get some sushi.
