991.2 GT3 will come with "Touring Package" option

Mmm...corduroy
Interesting item in Junes Car magazine article comparing the 1.2 GT3 with an AMG GT R:
"Or if you fancy something a little lower-key than the GT3, look out for the X90 Touring Pack version. Only available in manual transmission form, it trades in the flash wingwork and the racy interior for the more subtle aero kit of the discontinued 911 R and a period leather-with-corduroy trim."
Lifted from PH.....

But AP states that the R will always be special with lower volume, and the low weight components the car is homologated with (carbon hood, plastic windows (EU only), etc etc). This touring package won't have those bits.

I'm intrigued. Here is a 356 with corduroy interior. This updated for the 21st century (with leather) may look very cool.

- GT3 Touring would look like this for me;
- 4.0 GT motor - duh
- GT3 chassis - with maybe some "street", more compliant tuning
- reduced aero bits - maybe ducktail?
- couple rear seats - couple kids back there
- Saddle interior - option to have LWB
- Either transmission - manual for me
- Sophisticated paint options - GT Silver, British Racing Green, - option to go PTS

X90. Very intriguing and I think it would be the way I'd spec a .2 GT3. I love the special historic touches like the corduroy seat inserts and wonder what they'll look like. Could be a really special car.
Here are random images referencing corduroy fabric in 356/911s.

This last one looks hot!

There was a good write up on Jalopnik this week about the GTS and how dead and clinical it feels. Don't think the experience is anything like driving a GT3, lap times be damned.

Carbon bits take 15-20lb off. The LWFW 20lb more -- could be put in a GT3 after market if necessary. Lower volume a marketing gimmick and a non-issue if it's practically the same car.

Tune not really necessary, nor would it really make any difference. The two cars are light years different in construction and character. I'd have zero interest in a GTS, but would think long and hard about doing the touring version of a GT3 if I had the choice. 50-50.

I just sold my 17 GTS after two weeks. I completely agree with above. Very fast, very comfortable and absolutely boring car. One thing that really bothered me is that I could not hear the engine. Sport exhaust off you hear nothing but Turbo whoosh. Sport exhaust on you just hear the artificial burbling of the pipes. I actually drove it 40 miles. To drive 997 RS and 911R and then drove GTS 40 miles back. Next day dropped it off at the dealer. I also had a Macan GTS and agree with Jalopnik it is more exciting.
