I think this is going to play out like someone stated above, similar to the GT4s. I know I wasnt at the top of the list for one of my dealers on the GT3, only the 3RS, and I already got a call on a sep allocation....I didnt expect it, but similar to the GT4, where I was 4 or 5 on the list, when it comes time to write a check, lots of people "disappear".

I believe it is because those 918 VIPs have a direct line to PCNA and its part of the agreement when they bought the 918. Dealers in this case only act as middlemen so to speak.

I thought PCNA has no control over the dealers?
I thought that was the main reason dealers get away with gouging people?

As I understand it, the priority and price guarantee comes from PCNA and not the dealer. The dealer has nothing to say in those instances.

It goes to their host dealer. If they want a different dealer they have to ask to change dealers for all future deliveries.
That's why I said "if they want" and I know this for a fact because I spoke to a 918 owner that is ordering a manual PTS GT3. PCNA told him that it won't be a problem. So like you say, they'll send him an email the first day PTS is available and he'll say YES I want my manual PTS GT3.

So why can't PCNA dictate the same for every car? Something doesn't add up

I thought manufacturers are prohibited from dictating prices, so how is Porsche able to force pricing for a group of buyers?

That's a very good point and a clear contradiction in policy by PCNA.

State dealership laws play a role. Also, if PCNA dictated all sales to Dealers, what's the point of dealerships?

Yup, totally agree. Back in April 2015 I put a deposit at a large midwest dealer for a GT4 and got a call for an allocation at the end of Oct 2015. Not sure where I was on the list but it was after the GT4 was announced and for sure wasn't near the top of the list. So people just need to take a breathe, step back, and relax...we'll all get allocations just not the early ones especially now that we know the GT2RS and GT3RS are coming in the next 12 months as well. I know I'll get a GT3 at MSRP but it won't be until next year and I'm fine with that.

Which brings us back around to the question why dealers are obligated to sell at msrp to 918 owners...?

Would love to be able to buy direct from Porsche and avoid dealers someday...

The question is how legally they are able to dictate any sales, given the auto franchise laws.

That was the VIP agreement. It is what it is but the VIP dealer has to sell at the MSRP.

It is not fact "if they want". The GT3 is not limited run so more often than not the VIP can get PTS. IT IS NOT GUARANTEED for every car the VIP decides to buy.

TESLA did it but they had a lot of problems in TX with the unions and Dealer associations.
