GT3 Dealer Allocation Thread
#1607
Not to my dealer. In the past, when I was waffling about financing a car because money was so cheap, they were very happy when I said I'd just write a check. When I was discussing the chance of getting a GT3 with my SA, he said that in the past, lots of the people that said they wanted cars but then wound up not being able/willing to write the check/line up financing. Caused them a bunch of headaches. He knows I mean what I say and there will be no finance needs, and that was a plus to him. In the end, he said they are deciding who gets their cars based on three criteria. What have you bought from them in the past, how much service do you have done at the dealership, and whether you're local or not. He did say, a bigger build has an advantage, but only to a point. I've got about $20k in options, which he said was fine. My issue is simply that I've only bought two cars from them and only had about a 30 month service relationship. I only got back into cars after a bad motorcycle crash about 2-1/2 years ago left me unable to ride anymore. I'm sure there are a lot of people ahead of me based on the criteria, though he has so far indicated that I've got a shot.
Sorry to hear about your accident. Now there's more demand because you got back into cars for the rest of us :P just kidding
Of course every dealer operates differently, like some managers doesn't like uncertainty or bother to submit application for people. I've also met managers whose nose is basically pointed to the sky and think if you can't pay cash then you shouldn't buy it.
Anyway, please keep in mind what the dealer tells you at times could be very different from what they meant. I literally have heard before, in front of my eyes where a customer tells a manager "And I can write a check for the full amount today, or wire you 250k tomorrow even though car won't be here for couple months, I bet you like that, so can I get my car sooner?" and the manager replied "haha yes we love that, I'll see what I can do for you." and when he walks back to office, he immediately says internally "get out of here, I don't want cash buyers, he's not getting an allocation".
Of course your dealer can be genuine and I don't know exactly how they are, but just telling you the possible scenarios.
A lot of SA and managers won't ask you to build a more expensive car because it sounds like strong arming a customer or a stealer, and they rather just tell you they can't get you a car. The truth is when they come down to 1 last allocation they can give out, and they have two potential customers, one you, and one someone else would build a 5k or 10k more expensive car, although both are sufficient builds they will likely choose the higher MSRP one, if you don't stand out in a certain way (if you two both bought same amount of cars, relation feels same, service history feels similar). Literally as I said before, they will less likely take away your V200 allocation after giving it to you, so what does it hurt to build slightly more expensive now and take it off later. Giving them a complete print out of build will also help accelerate things so that the manager have it already handy to submit anytime.

Sounds good! especially if you had some nice options on it.
Did they guarantee you a value now for Jan? or they took your car already?
Congrats on the allocation!
Porsche GT, where people congratulate you when you are "allowed" to pay 170k to buy a car.
