Let me assure that I am in no way related to Chris1964 whoever the hell he is. I am not 53 and I live in a completely different country.

Chris1964, please change your Id otherwise the sceptics on this forum are forever going to doubt we are separate people. And besides, the GT3.2 is 4.0 as I have claimed since April last year. 4.2 is a rumor for the RS...but only a rumor.

Haven't heard of cryogenic freezing of sperm? There are surrogates waiting to be implanted in the future once minimum wage raises over $15 an hour.

Just fun speculation with no basis in fact whatsoever ;-)
The issue I have with the GT4 having 430hp is that it would be a massive jump from the 385hp of the 981.1. In my admittedly brief history with Porsche, I have not seen this type of jump in one iteration. The issue is, however, if they dont jump by that much the car may not be quicker than the Cayman S/GTS - hence the suggestion that they do go to 430hp but in a GT4 RS and not a base GT4.

Well they have to beat "Ring Time" or whatever of the turbo 718 cars, and they need to leave space for the GTS in between.

Stupid game. What do I care what the ring time with turbo + PDK is? I want to enjoy the car I have. If I want to go fast around the 'ring I rent a helicopter.

ETA: of course they could do something really cool and give the 718 GTS a NA 6-cylinder engine. Hah!

911 GTS is turbo, don't expect a cayman to be different.
cayman GT4 or RS will follow the same path. flat 4 turbo was a legend few decades ago. look at gas emission regulations as well for the coming years, it is just ridiculously low...

PAG has 18 months to deliver the GT3.2, the GT3.2RS and the GT2RS then showing the LE along with the new 911.

get the cheque book ready!

Ring times can't tell you how enjoyable a car is to drive but it certainly helps sales. The real issue now is how they are going to maintain the "pecking order" of the GT models relative to the turbocharged cars.. I certainly hope the 991.2 RS will remain a high-revving NA screamer!

For the 992 GT cars I think a better option than turbo is to go hybrid. It would be pretty cool to use a steering wheel button to get a temporary KERS-style electric boost on the straights! Only issue would be total weight of hybrid system vs tried-and-tested turbos...

Interesting that the 4.2l rumor for the GT3 has surfaced again

I had heard that in the beginning of December (see my thread start for more info) that Porsche had supposedly thought about putting a 4.2 in the GT3, I couldn't believe it and it never got substantiated by other people I talk to so I still dismiss it as highly speculative

but it is a nice rumor :-)

Last I heard they can't go 4.2 l without finding new materials for thinner engine block walls.

If I was Porsche and had to break in my customers to the idea of turbo GT cars, I would start with the GT4...

After all the trouble they've been through with 3.8 and now got the 4.0l running perfect in R,RS, RSR and R I find it highly unlikely to gamble with a 4.2l engine.
The 3.0l + hybrid + turbo in the 992 is just around the corner. And Porsche is trying to make money for VW. Can't see any reason for a 4.2

i don't mean to be speculative. and my question is NOT intended to be inflammatory.

but is there any credible affirmation to the rumor that Porsche may choose not to warranty the powertrain on the 991.2 GT3 if the vehicle is tracked?

Starting with MY '15 991.1 GT3, Porsche quietly changed the warranty language to give Porsche the option of denying warranty coverage if the car is tracked. This applies to the GT4 also, and I expect that the 991.2 will be the same.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...s-a-good-idea/

"A hybrid system means you have two engine systems; a combustion engine and an electric engine; two storage systems, a fuel tank and a battery," he said. "Therefore you need space and weight, additional weight. We are, to be honest, not sure because this is a 911. So we haven't made a decision."
