My GT3 engine just blew up

If not a recall for safety issues, then PAG better think hard about an extended engine warranty in order to keep the GT enthusiast base from looking at other cars. If they truly are unsafe, then by all means, they should recall the dang engine. That was their conclusion with the first 785 cars produced, and it seems as though we now have as many or more engine fires with the F engines as the E engines. If PAG has confidence that this is a fluke incidence, and not a safety concern, then something like a 10yr/100k engine warranty to please the customer base may be needed.

I wondered as I watched the video how long my GTS engine engine would last if it were constantly run at 6.7 to 7.7K RPMs. Race engines are built to, well race, and they only last a few hundred hours at best. How long is it reasonable to expect any engine to last when run like this?

At at what point does PCNA differentiate between an occasional "weekend DE" guy and a heavy track user for warranty coverage??

The rebuild interval of the 991.2 GT3 Cup factory race cars is 100 hours for the coming season (this is twice as long as the previous year for the Cup, I believe). These cars are driven close to redline (8,500 rpm) almost continuously for their lifespan.

The new 991.2 Cup has not raced yet, afaik. I think it will race in the 2017 season (including Le Mans). So if you saw failures last year, those were only good for 50 hours. Not sure if they had reached that point or not when it happened. Hopefully new ones live up to the hype (street versions too).

2016 engines:
Cup - Mezger
GT3R (GT3 spec) - DFI
GT3 RSR - Mezger
Both factory GTE Pro RSRs experienced terminal failures at Le Mans, and one did in 2015 as well.
2017 engines:
All DFI

From another thread...
Major German style design flaw: high pressure oil pump right near a catalytic converter.

Yes, they ARE reading MARV. They lurk around doing undercover work and voyuerism. They are very interested in what goes on here.

Exactly. And 100 hours is not when the race engine is expected self-destruct - the probability of them going boom may increase by just a few % and performance may go down immeasurably, both of which is unacceptable in a car that has to win races but not end of the world in a DE car. Losing an engine at this few track miles is not something we should expect from a GT3. If it is, I'm switching brands.
