But why would this be covered by Porsche? You were driving a street car on a closed race track.
Hopefully your track insurance does. Smart on you for purchasing the coverage.
What difference does that make? The engine was stock. You can create the same restraint on the engine on a public German autobahn, or if you are naughty on a quite b-route.

Depends on what happened to cause fire I would think. Engine under warranty, if it malfunctioned and started the fire......I think they have liability there. Rich has followed the book for maintenance with this car. Just had the 6,000 track mile service Porsche recommends (where the techs snapped his axle). I think the whole 991 GT3 community should be thankful that guys like RM21, Macca, and OrthoJoe run these cars through the paces on track. Anyone who still doesn't think the 2014 and 2015 cars are "beta" engines is naive.
Glad you are ok as well. Your factory Porsche warranty should take care of it. If your car was out of factory warranty, you car insurance probably wouldn't step up given most exclude any kind of track work or racing

sorry to see that but this shouldn't happen no matter where u drove
the car. i hope porsche steps up bc i'm about to give up after driving mclaren yesterday
Because GT3s have defective engines. It's not the first nor the last, unfortunately. Burning engines is less common, but still a known problem. Good luck OP.
Very sorry to hear that and glad you are safe. If Porsche doesn't step up here, since you are in the Atlanta area, just park the car next to their driveway for a few days with a note in the windshield explaining the saga. Hopefully they will do the right thing.

Really sorry to hear this, Rich! I'm sure things will be made right, but it's going to be hassle and you just dropped some coin on the track service.
Hang in there!
I think track insurance just covers damage from collisions, not mechanical problems. But Porsche warranty should cover this.
Just pulled out my track policy (rm21 and I have the same one). It specifically states that it covers only "collisions." And "collisions" are defined as follows;
“Collision” means the upset of your “scheduled auto”
or its impact with another vehicle or object while
involved in “driving activities.”
Just posting this info for others who might be wondering the same thing.
