Why does everyone always assume that cars like this will be 'bubble wrapped'? I doubt that anyone bought a 918 as a speculator, given the order book was open and slow for literally years.
It's only been recently that prices have gone up, and that wasn't foreseeable. Look at where the prices of CGTs were when 918 orders went in - the leap upwards is a recent phenomenon, amd wasn't a reason for purchasing a 918.
I know, or know of, a few 918 original purchasers and the vast majority (not all) are long time car enthusiasts and drivers. They're just in the good position of being able to afford a 918.
Personally, I see little point in the GT3RS as its not a real race car and it's not a better road car than the GT3. You also pull levers to get the electronics to change gears. The R is of interest because it seems to be designed for more involving driving, not because it's for bubble wrapping.
Personally, I hope it's not got too much power as that will inevitably mean it's got to have all sorts of safety add-ons. Having said that, that's probably where we are nowadays anyway,
please don't let it Rev-match though!

Alex. great work. Consistent with other testimony from those who have seen marketing materials.
Good news for Gt3 owners may now have CF body panels available for weight reduction lol! Can you imagine what those will cost even if you have a valid VIN to order them? The only panel I can see saving real weight over GT3/RS is there real steel fender? Already the front fender, hood, doors and roof on the GT3 are aluminium and on the RS CF.
Going to a MT will save some weight and I can see a few AMG here and there but we are hardly talking a 1300kg stripper are we?

Hint: there will be a lot of masturbating and whining.

Bad news: they don't really want to sell many of them from the sounds of it.
Brilliant strategy.

Otherwise, agree 100% with the rest of your commentary. I see these cars being driven, not bubble wrapped.

As far as the underbody aero goes, all they have to do is go check out the underbody aero of a Fcar. Ferrari never uses a rear wing on their production cars and get most of their down force from underneath.

Since this 911R is a "Unicorn", I am hoping the underbody aero would be as nice as that of the 918 Spyder. Maybe they can fit each of the exhaust tip in between the vertical slats on each side as shown in the rear end picture of the 918 Spyder.

Yes the R will be manual, but I just don't see a way to significant weight reduction without a carbon tub, (like mclaren), so I don't believe the R will be that much lighter than an RS with a manual transmission.

I agree on the weight loss skepticism. The RS used lots of exotic materials yet it is only about 10 kilos lighter than the GT3.
