I like Cammisa because he continues to fight the good fight but some of this was over the top. Reminds me of Sutcliffe's babbling video when the 991 GT3 hit.

Great car, no question.....just like all the other GT cars that have come before.

Maybe someday Porsche will build enough that those of us who showed them the way can drive one too.

So is this car commanding even more absurd 'market adjustment' prices than the RS? How much is the asking price now, compared with the RS? And Porsche is making almost double of those. Who'd think a manual car half as exclusive (and less capable) would have better reviews and demand than the mighty RS? Guess Porsche hit a homerun with this parts-bin car. Hopefully that will keep manual tranny+NA engine alive longer. I was seeing the writing on the wall when the GT3 went from manual only to auto only, and now turbos only.

Finally, a friend had engine failure on both a 2014 and 2015 GT3, and now he's enjoying a 2016. It never revved to a real 9K (that was only the tach), but 8,800 might still be a bit too much for engine longevity. Maybe they all rev to 8,500 now (apparently 911Rs show 8,600 on the tach, with rev limiter at 8,500), which is more than plenty fast. Ferrari 458s never revved to 9K either. But Yamaha won the wall of shame with a 17,500 redline that turned out to be 16,200. Have a great weekend everybody.

A lot more guys who can afford these cars are focused on driving on the road rather than the track. Given that the R appears to be designed well for road enjoyment, and also has exclusivity and pseudo-historical connections, I'm not surprised by the demand. I hope they continue to make cars like the R so that they can keep the GT3 and RS focused on the track.

Those who think a manual GT3 will replace or be a good substitute are missing the point of the R.

What's the point of the R that they are missing?

Its not like we have a choice. I have allocation number 7 in our country and we have been allocated only 1 car!!!

So the only choice for a manual 4.0 991 now is hopefully the 991.2 GT3.

It's an RS without the 'hey look at me" aero and the added engagement of a manual.

This must be a complex riddle, I shall go ponder this one

Speculation. For now it's got smaller motor, more weight, wing, more insulation, no CF panels, automatic, no single-mass flywheel.....

Have had E & G engines. AIM Can bus/obd2 telemetry shows engine revs to 9000 (on the track) in sport auto and manual paddle for both engines. Over rev event for MA175 & MA176 engines is 50 rpm for first (non critical) event. The flag tolerances are tight for the engine but the most I've been able to over rev it with PDK was 9032 rpm.

Just read the EVO review. I love my PDK-S for the track, where I use my GT3. I'd have to loose my 993RS spec to get a R even if an allocation was available. I couldn't do that as its air cooled with 6 speed and hydraulic steering, 1290 kg and very involving to drive in the road. I value feedback from owners who have seat time in cars they are comparing the R with (RS etc) more than journos in this regard. I look forward to that feedback on this board when cars are delivered. It certainly is a very special car, every iteration gets better than the last it seems....

Then on a long enough timeline we'll get our true 1250kg R with gutted interior....
