Does anyone recall how long the PTS window was open for the RS?

The PTS window for the MY2016 .1 991 gt3 RS closed on July 6th, 2015.
When it opened is subject of debate and the story gets quite murky. As
I recall, folks* that were pretty certain they were high enough on their
dealer's 991 gt3 RS allocation list, thus confident they were scheduled
to receive an RS, started contacting 'Porsche Exclusive' in the US with
inquiries about the possibility of PTS on their prospective orders. One
person at PCNA's 'Porsche Exclusive', Melissa Witek, took the initiative
to write down the list of people that contacted her with such an interest
in PTS (even though officially PTS is not part of 'Porsche Exclusive').
Once PAG officially opened their PTS window for the .1 gt3 RS, this 'list'
became THE guide as to who had priority to get PTS on their actual
allocation.
The above is all from memory. I am sure that people that
lived through it (e.g. Nate) can fill in more details. But my recollection
is that those that waited until they got a firm allocation in hand before
inquiring about PTS for their RS orders were most likely disappointed.

So the process for PTS for the .1 991 gt3 RS, at least on the US market,
was not optimal nor equitable. I personally believe that PAG has to be
more transparent in telling its customers how PTS works & operates so
that everyone has an equal opportunity to order this option. That is one
of the reasons I have asked PAG & PCNA to help me shed some light on
the PTS process. And RS customer's frustrations & resentment (the ones
left out of the PTS equation simply because the procedure for this option
was so mishandled by PAG/PCNA) is case in point as to why Porsche needs
to better manage the PTS option!

Thank you Eduardo, Kaiser and König of PTS.

How does Porsche inform the buying public and their dealers of PTS windows, it sounds like dealers weren't even alerted until they tried to select PTS, hit and miss.

If it wasn't for RL I would have missed the window, thankful that didn't happen but not everyone relies on the crazies here. Good crazy.

My understanding is that PAG informs PCNA
of the PTS window when it opens or closes.
PCNA then makes modifications to the computer
systems that allows their US dealers to order
PTS as an option via PCNA's order 'book',
assuming a dealer has the allocation for that
particular Porsche model during the period the
window is open.

PTS is run by a group at PAG that is not related
to 'Porsche Exclusive'. Porsche budgets a limited
number of PTS per model, based on the input that
it receives from 'Sales'
. PTS slots appear to me
to be handed out as 'first come, first serve' basis.
Whatever dealer in whatever Porsche market gets
its PTS order in first once the window is open, gets
the PTS 'worm'! And if for whatever reason PCNA
is caught asleep at the wheel when PAG in Germany
opens that PTS window, and delays the ordering
process to their PCNA computers in any way, the
US customers might pay a heavy price for that lack
of diligence! I have reason to think, based on PTS
order reports that I received at the time from Rennlist
members based in Germany & ordering PTS RS, that
PCNA lagged behind that market in opening its PTS
window...and this might have caused valuable PTS
slots to be taken by customers/dealers in other
ROW markets that were quicker to modify their
order book computers to allow for PTS!

Normally, the PTS windows opens at the beginning
of a Model Year in the order book (e.g. it may be
Dec 2015 or Jan 2016 for MY2017) and remains
open until all the slots are taken. But there are
exceptions. For the .2 987 Boxster Spyder, the
PTS window was opened for two weeks in March
of 2011 in what appears to be an arbitrary decision
which caught most dealers & customers by total
surprise!

The problem is that most dealers & customers do
not fully understand how PTS operates at Porsche.
And the latter has done very little to explain to their
dealers & customers how it truly works and why there
is a shortage of slots for PTS in their system. If the
rules of PTS were fully explained (and the bottle-necks
explained too), I would think most of their customers
would be willing to accept the limitations of the system
& make every effort to be ready with their PTS orders
once the window opens. But 'Sales' has to realize that
the demand for PTS has changed from what it was in
the past. And PAG needs to recognize that PTS is an
option that needs to be prioritized at Porsche so that
more capabilities is added to the production process.
PTS in the past was an option rarely exercised by the
majority of customers - dealers or individuals. That
has now changed (and I believe forever). So Porsche
needs to adapt to the increase demand and make the
necessary changes in their forecasting, production &
logistics to match supply to the increased demand!

Eduardo

Based upon email traffic with my dealer, I received my Nov build allocation on May 15 at which time I asked about PTS. My dealer promptly told me that my Nov build date was outside of the PTS window, but that he also didn't have any details of when that window would be. Being new to Porsche, I didn't think to question what seems like a mixed message. At the time, my dealer only had 2 allocations...mine and a 918 owner (Aug build date). I figured that if a VIP wasn't getting PTS, then it made sense that a regular Joe like me wasn't getting it.

Fast forward to the encyclopedia of all things Porsche (aka, RL) when the first posts of the PTS window opening, I made what I now know as a fatal mistake of contemplating which shade of blue I wanted only to make up my mind a couple weeks later (roughly Jul 20). I was then told the PTS window was closed.

On Aug 15, I even asked if I could change my order to Miami Blue which at first was successfully entered. Two days later, denied.

Moral of the story, always ask dealer to make a note that I want PTS even if an allocation is pending. And once I get an allocation, continue to harass dealer until a PTS window opens to ensure I secure a PTS build

Now we know to just grab any approved PTS color and change it as needed. It's like the secret menu at In-n-Out, except it's only available 10 minutes a day and nobody knows when that will be.

I'll give this a bump, since I am curious as well about the color. It's hard to tell in the photo, but it looks a bit darker than Mexico blue to me. Possibly Riviera blue.

Riviera is a shade lighter than Mexico and has a little more yellow in it. Really tough to tell in these showroom pics with the overhead lighting.

I just got my build date for an "approved" PTS. March 2016. Anybody else with a PTS color other than M blue, R yellow, or black with a build that far into the future? I feel like my car will be one of the last built and I 'll miss 1/3 of the track season.

This is new. I thought PTS was closed July? I just placed my order few days ago. The PTS showed up but could not select any of the colors. The Miami blue is the only worthy color IMHO. How is this possible?

Eduardo, Need your advice. After seeing the post about PTS availability I called up my sales manager and he was able to change the color to PTS Miami blue BUT it took me back to V100 showing feasibility check. Whats your recommendation regarding Miami blue vs UV if the orders goes through? We will be calling Porsche tomorrow to see what caused the feasibility check. It's either the Paint or the black spoiler riser which is CXX option. Blue or UV? He says they will call us and let us decide.

I think Street is saying he had an approved PTS from July that finally got an official build date. Many of us have been in that position(I still don't have my build date, but have an allocation and accepted PTS).

PTS Closed back then. They are finally getting the orders built as there was a serious delay on PTS orders. To resolve this to a degree they introduced Miami Blue ,Black and Racing Yellow as an option to PTS customers only, at the PTS price, with cars being delivered sooner than other PTS colours. Some opted out and went this route to save time, if they liked the new colours, I kept my original choice happily. Not sure how you can order a Miami Blue now as the PTS window closed in July and MB RS vehicles would have closed ages ago with PTS buyers from July. Of course I am not Eduardo but do agree with his reasoning. UV would no doubt be my first choice. Congrats on the allocation and good luck with your choice. It takes a lot of thought and your mind goes back and forth too many times. It is insane how many times one can change their mind.
