Great history lesson. Though note that "special color" on the 991.2 GT3 (chalk, miami blue, carmine red, lava orange) is now $4,220...

Back when I wrote that post in December of 2016, the
.2 991 gt3 had not been announced yet nor any pricing
for 'special color' options was known on that gt model.
The 'Special Color' on the .2 991 still is $3,150 but PAG
will charge you $1070 more for same color on the .2 991
gt3!

***
Did you learned about the new price ($9,270) of PTS for the
.2 991 gt3 from your dealer or via PCNA 'Exclusive Manufaktur'
in Atlanta? It is still NOT up on the .2 991 gt3 configurator in
the US! Nor at the one in the Fatherland for that matter!

***
And what else were you told about how PCNA was
selecting those to get PTS in the .2 991 gt3?

Saludos,
Eduardo

Well, let's see the history of pricing in 'Special' & PTS at Porsche
to see if it sheds any light on Porsche's thinking as they priced
these color paint options!
====>

PTS price increase in time
demand also increae
partly b/c PTS is now a "known" option
in the 80's not many knew PTS or truly exclusive options. remember that 911 turbo where the TX rancher send his own cow hides with his own branding and make into the seat for his turbo....

also by increasing PTS pricing i mean SUBSTANTIALLY increasing it. many like PTS b/c it's a fad, b/c it's the "thing" to get. they dont really have a goto color. let see how many riviera blue we get when it's $40k option. i would do it in my color for 40k sure.

my bikes, snap on, socks, man cave... all painted orange.
house was to be in orange until my wife called my mother to stop me.
now THAT is a true love for a color. not just a fad.

anyways, carry on. my dealer seem to have little clue on PTS ugh....

I believe the cost increase is because PAG/VW needs money, I believe Eduardo made you guys order these colors, he has hypnotized us all, he told me to be happy with UV and I am. I believe the GT3 costs more to paint because of the plastic wing and nose parts are painted elsewhere where PAG has less control of quality especially for PTS and there can be issues and a need to repaint them. Again that is why all 991 bodies are painted in house, all of them, repaints or stripes may go elsewhere but the body is there, submerged in primer, multiple computer controlled coats, dust free atmosphere, all there

Yes, it does seem they got a bit greedy this time.
On my order, option code 98_E (custom non-metallic paint) is listed at $9270.
I was expecting the $6950 that is the current PTS charge. Still not sure if I will keep this allocation or just get another, later normal one.
If I knew ahead of time it was a $9270 option I would have politely passed. And had a car in December. Now, who knows. . .

Anyone offended by the PTS price who wants to pass the allocation to me please PM me. I can live without "my" color, but I need PTS and I have an approved color that is a distant second choice.

Just no. Basic math should make it obvious.

I would be it's actually a loss for them to do a PTS. If they had a different assembly line, well who knows. But I expect they have some fixed capacity to do PTS without reducing overall production.

We share the same passion although I think you have me beat by a lot!

Doubtful- I bet it's all done in house, but entirely speculation.

Yes it's spendy but it's spendy at 6950, what's another 3K? It's not worth it, but it's your color and it's hard to put a price on it (well Porsche can!).

BTW...
My order just got moved Friday, and it was still in process. When did you get confirmed and how did they share the price with you (just curious)?

Hmmm... Maybe all you VIP's balked at the price and opened up some crumbs for those of us who are waiting (and have been waiting) for a chance to get PTS.

All good points. Also, for those who say "how can $2,320 push you in a direction to not purchase the PTS car", my response is "at some point, enough is enough". It's called price creep. Before you know it, the GT3 is $200K...

Still 4 colors left for $0, go one of them if you're worried about Budget. I called my dealer on Friday to confirm the $9,270 line item was indeed PTS - when I was sent my updated build sheet the description was still blank.

the plastic parts are painted by an outside supplier last I knew, its been a few years, but I saw the truck deliver them and was told specifically by the guide, thats why the paint on those parts is never perfectly matched, check your car you'll see

Perhaps that plus the paint materials used for plastic parts that flex are different than for the metal parts.

They are painted all together otherwise they would never match the same color hue

and also base 991 has plastic parts...

RS is RS. and ADM is ADM

go on
