Here is a sport car we GT3 owners need to avoid

Just put a deposit on a C7 Z06 at the largest Chevy dealer in the country. They are doing a point system supposedly for their list and since I make over a dozen fleet purchases a year from them for my company, I hope I'm near the top of the list. My big decision is whether to keep the C6 ZR1 and make it track only or make the C7 Z06 do it all like I did with my ZR1. I'm dropping 60lbs this weekend on the ZR with a lightweight racing exhaust and a li ion battery install. Car will weigh right at 3214lbs with a full tank of gas at that point. Not bad for a nearly stock ZR1 with race seats, battery, and exhaust as only weight reducing mods.

I think the base price being thrown around is optimistic.
The previous ZR1 started at $113k and I would be very surprised to see the Z06 come in much less than that.

2014 (Jan-May) 911s delivered in US: 4359
2014 (Jan-May) Corvettes delivered: 15021
15k number could include a few exports, but the vast majority are US sales.
2013 (annual) 911s delivered in US: 10442
2013 (annual) Corvettes delivered: 17291
Even in a transition year, Corvette deliveries in the US were significantly higher than 911 deliveries.
In 2006 Corvette deliveries were over 36,000 for the year.
Most of us have watched the ultimate factories videos (at least a dozen times). The Porsche 911 production line is not signficantly different than the Chevrolet Corvette in the way the cars are manufactured, up to and including the primer dip process (Corvette frames are dipped, Porsche unibody is dipped). Certainly Porsche has traditionally had better fit and finish and higher quality interior materials and general quality standards. The difference between the Corvette and the Porsche 911 has narrowed significantly from a quality perspective as Corvette moved from the C5 through C6 and into the seventh generation C7.
The difference in approaches to the cars is striking - they are nothing alike and the base car from each line targets a different audience.
The track focused versions from each line tend to have a lot more overlap in prospective buyers.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the sole purpose of the GT3 track work? It is not designed as a dragster nor is the 06.
The Z06 will destroy every Porsche except the 918 on a track. There is no getting away from the fact.
Street drag racing generally is not something Porsche drivers do.![thumbup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/thumbup.gif)

imo, the new z06 will make many sports cars obsolete: gtr, bimmers, jags, aston martins, huracans, amg[anything], vipers, 911s, and anything out of ford. manual plus 650 torque will get a lot of respect track or street.

Okay - I have never been a Corvette fan but have always respected the performance numbers ect. Actually, I am a sport car fanatic so I read about them all but it does not mean I want to own a specific model. Reasons why I am not a Corvette fan is not really relevant at this point because "to each their own".
But - today I was at Starbucks and a Brand new yellow Vette with black wheels, roof, and other features pulled up next to me. Holly cow does that car look great up close. Pictures do not do this car justice. Even if that the 65 year old guy with a long grey hair in a pony tail and his sleeves cut off was distracting my view as he was admiring his new car.
The 2015 Z06/07 will have impressive performance numbers and will even be better looking than their base model which I saw today. It will sell like roses on Mother's Day.
But, in the end, I will still prefer a Porsche

I just hope the Z06 won't overheat like the C7 does. Recently spent 3 days on a track with one. Gets hot fast. The nannies are horribly intrusive if left on. I guess it's set up by the lawyers for the typical 'Vette owner, not for track use. Pedals are better located for heel-toe than the Porsche ones. Otherwise, not for me. Plus, they went and filled the trunk with an engine!?!
