And for me, I would probably try to find a steel replacement rotor (or have one made). IMO Carbon brakes on street cars is ridiculous for the money that goes into them. I'd put some pagid yellows or equivalent PFC pad and steel rotors and go to town.
Coming from a guy that tracks a Zo6 w/ carbon ceramic brakes I would not change them. They work awesome, do not fade and replacement costs are minimal at $1100ea for front's and $1300ea for rears. A big benefit of GM's production volume! Rotors last about a season (25-30 track days) and you do not have to worry about cracking rotors or any of that other stuff. Pads seem to last about 5 days for fronts and 7-8 for rears, so they last quite a while too. I'm trying to find out if the Z28 pad compound is the same as the one on the Z06/ZR1 but if it is a pad replacement with Pagid RS29's or Endless W007 will provide even better braking performance than what the testers had!

I don't know, almost 5k to replace 4 rotors and probably another grand to include pads plus shipping, tax install you are looking at 7-8 k. About 8 percent of the as new value and 12-15 percent of sale value. That sounds steep to me. You could buy a Brembo, Wildwood or Alcon kit for that money and have more money for tires. For me if I'm investing such a high percentage in the car it won't be for disposable items.

What's the definition of a track day. 4x 30 min sessions?

I am surprised rears cost more then the fronts to replace. It's opposite for our 911's

My current season is 12-16 track days on a set of tires and pads. steel rotors last me 3-4 seasons $1700 for tires and $1300 for pads. So around 3k to go and play for the season. I am also talking Cdn dollars and taxes so it would be almost half that cost in the USA.

Jumper, what rotors and pads are you using? I'm assuming 6 piston upgrade and 350 mm rotors of some sort?

On my 996tt all OEM with Pagid yellow pads. On my 996 C4S just OEM for everything which is the same as the tt except the C4S is 100 lbs lighter and doesn't require as much braking since it doesn't hit the entry speeds the tt does so I've never needed switch from OEM pads on it. Majority of the days are spent at Mosport with usually only 3 days on a different track like Mid Ohio or Calabogie.

Yes, my C4S rotors lasted 74k miles before I replaced them. 4 seasons of 12-16 days in advanced DE group. Which is why I said 3 or 4 but 3 being on the safe side. After doing 1 season they could go another 2 easy but I got the tt and won't be tracking it now due to it needing an engine rebuild. I only got 8 days with the tt and the rotors were not new when I got it. OEM pads were shot in 2 days, which is why I switched to pagids and after 6 days they still look almost as meaty as they were new.

I think you're right about that. Though Mid Ohio without the chicane isn't really that much harder on them as well.

Anyway I kinda like the exterior looks of the z28 - looks like a brute killing machine. The new corvette doesn't do it for me. Seen a few new corvette's on the road the rear is just plain ugly but can live the other 3/4 of car. Interior of z28- kinda cheap but looks like they did the more important things putting in $$ as far as track efficient. I'll wait til they are used and put the necessary track safety mods and mite get one. Mike
