I would hold off on trying anything until Geneva. I think when the RS is shown it will have an entirely new seat similar to the 918 that will hopefully be compliant in the US.

My guess is that the the connectors are the same, but Porsche has programmed the ECU to not accept the bucket seats in United States. I agree that there is probably a way to fix this issue, though. If someone can figure it out, it would save me from passing on an allocation if the buckets still aren't out by then.

There is no chance I'm passing on my allocation because of seats, and if I didn't have a set of GT2 Buckets I'd drop in a set of aftermarket race seats for track days like racetech or similar.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the cable-connector under the seat (for the Airbag, Seatbelt-warning). But I'll Check this!
I love the 997 GT-2 seats. Bought a sport bucket drivers seat for my recent 14 Cayman S. It set off the idiot light on the display, but according to my tech at the dealer, who installed it, everything except the seat airbag was functional. I just bought a loaded, aero-kit 991 and plan on putting my 997 sport bucket in. Had them in my 11 RS. They just feel right. I have 14 way adjustable seats in my new 991, but they drives me nuts. The sport buckets feel like home. Please Rennlist engineers...come up with an electrical fix...I know it can be done.

Spoken like someone so far down the 991 gt3 list at his dealership that he can say this without actually blushing! Right, Joe!

That's all? You & your passenger don't need no stinking seat airbags...except when you run into that unexpected crash! Then the 'thorax' of both occupants might not like it so much, since the engineers designed crash protection of the cabin to include working airbags on the seats. The thorax is that portion of your body, between your neck & abdomen, that includes the ribs, dorsal vertebrae and internal cavity with major organs like your heart & lungs. But other than that, it's nice to know the gt2 seats on a 981 & 991 are mostly 'functional' and move/glide nicely back & forth.

Hope nothing bad ever happens because, in our current litigious environment, a smart lawyer would have a field day with injuries (e.g. your passenger) arising from such alteration to the safety 'equipment' of your vehicle.

Saludos,
Eduardo

At this point passing on my allocation is irrelevant what with my car within 750 miles of San Diego and all , but if Plan A (buy the new replacement Porsche buckets aftermarket) proves too expensive, Ryan's suggestion is the same as my Plan B.

True. Given the predictions of buckets not being available until 2015, I will likely be forced to make a choice since my number is supposed to come up before then. My current plan is to pass. If rumors of no 2015 model come true, then you are right it would be a tough decision at that point. Then there's the issue of euro delivery and timing....

Jeff, absolutely. Went in today and wrote the check so I could claim IRS state sales tax deduction before it goes away at the end of the year. Now, nothing left but the good stuff....picking up the damn car!

That's great. Gonna be a fun month of January. We should all set up a California 991 GT3 meet/drive. Would help with the break-in miles. You gonna do a clear bra?

Interesting. I didn't know about that.. This calculator only goes to 2012.

Yes, but the deduction for state and local sales tax is in lieu of state and local income tax. You don't get to claim both, so you need to be in situation where your total sales tax liability exceeds your state income tax liability.

^^Agreed.

Anyone in a no state income tax state (NV, TX, FL, etc.)--this is awesome for you.

OK, Got it. Makes sense.. sounded too good to be true the way I initially interpreted it.
