"Porsche CEO Matthias Muller has finally confirmed that the company is working on a rival for the Ferrari 458 Italia..."
"Power is likely to come from the 4.6-litre V8 engine used in the 918 Spyder. Expect around 570bhp and a 0-62mph time of just over three seconds – figures to match those of the 458 Italia and McLaren 12C..."

I'll pass on the first 2 versions, but that 961 I could live with! Put me on the list...
However, mid-engined, 570 HP and more than 3 seconds 0 - 100? Never! It'll surely be below 3... it must be, to stay in that (stupid) race, especially when only being launched in 2 years from now!

If they decide to go racing with this platform and do well, then there will be a nice market for it.
Otherwise it will just be a fast 2 seater luxury item that depreciates as fast as its 0-60 times.
I sure hope they go racing with them!

Won't the 458 be replaced by the time this comes out in 2017?
The C&D rendering is absolutely horrible, looks like a Panamera coupe. I guess the Cayman/918 hybrid look is nice but I personally would have liked to see something a bit more different/radical. Having said that, I guess people probably said the same about the 959 back in the day but I still love that car.
I would rather get a used 9ff GT9-R

I think they MUST build it... Natural evolution for the Porsche line-up...
I'd buy one. Hell, I would have owned a Cayman S or R if it had more horsepower....

Yes, there will be! Big time! This is FeFi. This is the one you have been waiting for...although perhaps you don't know it yet! This will make you forget the gt3! This is what the 918 Spyder should have been...without the weight & expense of the electric crap! Simply....'This is it!'...to quote Kenny Loggins!
The less attention you pay Matthias in his public speaking role, the more you will understand & appreciate about future Porsches! The guy is generally clueless...and is not long for this CEO role (my intuition)!

in case you haven't notice, there is a surplus of these traits in Germany! So they can find another stereotypical Aleman in short order! Unless they want to go with just technical savvy, frankness & openness...and then they can pick Andreas!

Believe the 961 will become the Porsche GT for top level ACO Le Mans and endurance racing.

Agree with this 100%. Over the years, Porsche managed to engineer enough competence into the 911 chassis to transform its rear engine layout from a vice into a virtue for production car racing. But once the competition moves beyond a certain level of displacement and horsepower, it will become a real handicap. They need the 960 right now, and not only for endurance racing. With 500+ HP becoming the norm on everything from Mustangs to Lamborghinis, Porsche will need this car for a competitive street car offering too. IMO, 2017 is too long for them to bring this car to market.

+961! I'm glad Porsche is proceeding with the mid-engine models positioned above the rear engine platform, which I think jumped the shark years ago. Internal designation aside, I wonder if a re-use of the GT1 nomenclature is feasible especially when they race this model.
