960: I had a 928, had a Cayman but don't need a combo of them melded into one car for $300K. Mercedes Benz has beaten them to the market with the GTS at 1/2 the price...

You're right that Porsche is only concerned with placing their badge on a VW product and making a ton of money. That is the problem. Unfortunately, they can only rest on their laurels for so long.

To answer your question, I have no idea, but I did.

I think we can agree it's vanishingly few, and no one at Porsche is particularly concerned about McLaren, whereas McLaren is very concerned with Porsche (and Ferrari).

McLaren's upcoming P13/Sport Series must be a credible challenger to the upper end of the 911 range, whereas the might of Porsche's engineering resources will be directed toward the 4 door ranges.

Porsche sold out of their 918 Spyders.

I think they could produce a 960 hardtop coupe using some left overs from the 918 parts bin to have a profitable new model in the 250k plus price point segment.

They could probably sell all of them.

Most likely be a twin turbo V8 spyder motor.

It would be a head to head with McLaren, Lambo and Ferrari..... could also be a RS version.... maybe even a drop top too... lots of configuration possibilities...

911 sales should remain sufficient as the price point and buyer would be totally different then a "supercar" buyer...

I could see a 960 race car replacing 991RSR..... but i see the 991 Cup car carrying on as usual and perhaps even a GT4 cayman cup car....

Default Wolfgang Hatz on 960...

in ensuing Wolfgang Hatz, Porsche R&D chief, hints at 960 in medium term

http://www.pistonheads.com/news/defa...?storyId=31485

"And as for plans for a dedicated sports car above the 911, but below the megabucks 918? “I think in the medium term we need such a car,” says Hatz. Which we’ll take as a yes."

The 458 will be gone, and the 650S is much more powerful, so they are holding something back. Wont work

IMHO Porsche should go over the top with this model and break many of it's own rules. No LeMans racing program, mediocre styling as in the picture above, and a detuned version of the 918's engine with only 10 more hp than a Turbo S - is not going to come close to competing in any way with a McLaren P11R, P15, 458 turbo or Ford GT. Not that Ford GT's engine excites me in any way...

The 960 should be a much more futuristic and edgy design than that found in it's current line-up. Something like this perhaps:

This is an old article, latest news I thought was they canceled the project. I suspect they realized it wouldn't work.

But agree, if they bring it back something like that Audi would be awesome!
