Not to mention that all of the negativity is based on pure conjecture rather than real world results. No wonder the man says "Shut up and Drive". If I were him, I could think of rather more pithy things to say.

Look at it this way. The 991 GT3 will go down in the Porsche timeline as an absolutely historical achievement if not solely on it merits of "moving the game on", revolution vs evolution, then at least in the controversy it caused before it even went into production and the number of "torn nighties" its left in its wake LOL! Its destined for "greatness" either way!

Makes me want one even more. Hurry up that production line!

Other than the Corvette and possibly the VIper are there any high performance sport cars offering manual?

The V8 Vantage feels like a sports car. I drove one at the weekend and was very taken with it.

Really? I drove one at the initial launch years ago with veoloci rapter. Then drove one a few months ago to see how it's improved. Didn't feel very sporting to me.

And the one with the big engine is way overpriced.

Aston has never characterized its models as performance sport cars. They are grand Tourers and their customer base understands this. If they tried to sell the car as a high performance sport car they would look silly. There is not a car they can compete with in this category. BTW, I am surprised they offer their cars in manual.

And I would suggest that the new car we are discussing here is also merely a GT car, and thus should be named a 911 GT.

This could be an alternative if they build it, and if they would use the 2.5L (TTRS) engine, and bump it to 400hp

At 2445lbs, AWD, proper buckets, manual, etc

I liked the way it steered, the driving position and the compact size. I would buy one. I agree the V12 is pricey.

While Aston Martin has continued producing "mechanical" vehicles (no doubt Dr. Bez has something to do with that), Porsche has moved towards high profit tourers. The death of the motorsport-based street cars means that in order to get a car from Porsche that has any chance to become a classic -- you'll need to look towards one of their supercars or perhaps the "Ferrari" fighter they're supposedly working on.

Does anyone here really think anyone is going to want a 991 GT3 over the previous variants in 15 years? I see it being about as desired as an old 996 or a base 997.1

For what it is - the V8 Vantage is destined to be a classic car. As the little kid from the Porsche commercial who's always wanted a 911 and finally reached the point in my life where I can afford them - I've come to the sad realization that Porsche no longer makes the cars I fell in love with. I don't think I'm alone in this realization.

I may take AP's advise - shut up and drive; right over to the Audi dealer.
