The .2 engine was changed over to solids to get away from the .1 design. It was never for a performance upgrade, although it can add some performance.

In my opinion, someone was asleep at the wheel when the .1 design was Ok'ed.
And that would have to be Andreas Preuninger one would think.

Anyone know if a dealer could install the Top End from a 991.2 on a 991.1? Cost?

Edited for grammar

If you refer to a Porsche dealer I would think they would not touch that with a ten foot pole, lol.

Why do you think the G6 motors aren’t failing?

I believe we do not yet have enough (if any) G6 motor failure data to go by, and only know of a few G-series owners who have racked up 20+ K miles thus far.
Same theory follows those F-series (2015+) and some early G-series motors that have yet to go because Porsche did apply DLC coating or who knows what else in attempts to remedy the issue taking those motors longer to let-go.

I would feel much better hearing this news from PAG/PNA themselves to settle it for certain.
Even friends who work for Porsche seem to have signed NDAs as everything is so 'secretive,' and I understand why (sort of).
Perhaps at the 10 year warranty expiration PAG will send current 991.1 GT3 owners a letter of explanation and/or perhaps a nice severance check: yeah right, but wishful thinking!

In my post I suggested the DLC made a difference.

We designed a conversion when there was no alternative. The warranty offer superseded this and we knew at that time our conversion was not going to be in immediate demand. That's the way it goes sometimes.

Will engines with DLC fail? I have no idea. As an engine person, I look at the design, at the failures and come to a conclusion, why. We went ahead with a "fix".

As the warranty period gets closer to ending, owners have the choice to do whatever they wish.

Engines are still failing with the DLC coating. Porsche added oil sprayers as part of their last fix, which seems to have solved the problem...

I had also thought the same, and perhaps misread his words?

This is the Porsche 991.2 solid finger assembly. You can just make out the oil spray jet just ahead of the finger axle.
This looks like a beautiful fix. I'm excited to potentially have this installed in my F0 motor if it does not require replacement by 2025. Thank you for sharing the photos, as well as your thoughts on the .1 and .2 top end designs.

I had the "unfortunate" opportunity to see inside many of the 991.1 engines, including I was told were the latest. These did have the DLC fingers. None had any new extra oil spray parts fitted. Those would certainly help and out of interest, would love to see how they did it.

Was it the latest G-6 engine?

I think Porsche should provide a decent warranty on replacement engines, starting from the date they're installed. Doesn't make sense that Porsche keeps putting flawed engines in these cars, then we're on the hook if they fail prematurely.
