Default Cup 2's performance falls off way to fast on track

For reference, I have a GT3RS with 3,600 miles and original Cup 2's. It's seen 5 track days. My coach and I noticed a massive loss of grip yesterday at Laguna. He can run a 1:34 on a stock GT3 and was not confident enough to run lower than 1:40 on my car. He confirmed that dozens of people he knows say the same thing. They cycle out very quickly and for $2,000 a swap that's ridiculous.

I don't see a lot of other choices for stock 20"/21" GT3RS wheels unless I'm missing something

Thinking of going aftermarket 19"/20" to have a wider selection of tires. I've heard great things about Goodyear F1 3R's. Does anyone have experience with these?

I bought the car with 1,800 road miles. The 1,800 I've put on were driving to track and back and of course track miles.

I was out there yesterday as well - good day with a fast group. If you are running consistently in the 1:30s I think most will tell you it's great you could get even 5 track days out of cup 2's. I'm running the new Dunlop sport maxx R's currently but I don't think they are any better then cup 2s from a longevity standpoint. I wish we could get RE71Rs or NT01s in 20/21" OEM sizes. at least they would save some $.

Not very many track tires are even alive for the 5th track day (I usually cord the OEM rear tires on the 3rd half day).

The tires have aged out and heat cycled out at this point. They are 2 years old with lots of miles on track. 5 days on track and they are heat cycled out. Forget the mileage. Look at age and heat cycles

My last Cup 2s and Dunlops lasted about 5-6 days. This set of Cup 2s I'm on has had 3 days and 4k track miles on them, and I think I could get one more day before cords will show on the fronts.

Every year I put in a request for Nitto to make NT01s in GT3 sizes, but tires have become much faster than the NT01 over the years, but none seem to match their durability and "to the cords" consistency. I'm going with the Nankang AR-1 next, which is a faster dry tire, in GT3 & RS sizes, and is several hundred dollars cheaper per set. Give those a look.

I've heard good things about those, but the rear 305's are not really made to fit a 12" rim (they are quite stretched and outside the recommendations of Nankang). The OEM N-Rated 305/30 are made more like a 325/25.

yeah that's what we are thinking. 2018 production date and too many heat cycles.

Yes, as others have commented, it's common knowledge that the MPSC2's are good for about 2 laps before you lose grip and heat cycle out. . . Dunlops are better. Nankangs may also be a good option.

If you've driven them, you'd know. They're really just good for one lap. But, as long as you don't try to take them fast around the track on a second lap in your first session, you can get another good lap on them during your second session.
