Cup 2's = Horse ****

Nankang or Dunlops leagues ahead, both the same and cycle out well.

I also prefer Dunlops to Cups, but the gap is not huge for me

Like you ,mentioned above, a lot of my fellow track rats have gone to 19" wheels for track duty. The only issue is if you have PCCBs, as the clearance with the caliper would be quite slim.

Same, I'm not too worried about it even though it's not optimal as they still outperform Cup 2s and Dunlops on track despite the narrower width.

Side note, I honestly didn't like the Dunlops as much as the Cup 2s on track. They took me an extra lap to get up to temps/pressures resulting in the rest of the session spent catching the cars that I waved by on the warm up laps.

Passing and being passed is alot of the fun on the track! It shouldn't slow you down if you're driving with good drivers, as they should give you a point by before you're on the tail. If they don't, they're bad drivers, and need to be demoted to the beginner levels.

Yeah I'm thinking of going 19" also. I already swapped to AP steels so no issues there. I really would love to go 5 lug... but that conversion seems very involved.

I am researching this now, what tires and sizes are your friends using? the people I know who use 19" are using R7s as they tow, but I still drive to/from the track.

Same - I drive to and from track and Thunderhill is 3 hours away. That's the only street driving I do though. Definitely going 19's. Would be nice to find a tire that can last 6 full track days without going to crap

this! - my '18 .2 GT3 Cup2's (original) cycled out earlier this year after about 3.5k mi ... a lot of which was track ... I will pay more attention to their replacements lifetime...

Perhaps our expectations of a performance street tire designed for 'track use' are a bit unrealistic. A 3200-3500lb sports car capable of tremendous lap times.... somethings going to give. These cars are far more capable than the OE rubber provided. For ultimate performance and longevity you'll want to run a slick. Anything else is compromise that we need to learn to live with. Tires are consumables. Run them hard on a race track and they get consumed rather quickly. Gotta pay to play!

Don't let the cost of tires stop you from tracking these incredible cars.

Go make some memories!

I think I'm starting to realize this... so either I put a ridiculous rack on my RS and lug slicks to track or I trailer....

I could be wrong but I thought the owners manual (in particular the track maintenance section) had something (negative) to say about slicks in combination with the CLs and hubs ... I could be wrong, but I thought it was something along the lines of "slicks generate too much force/load on the hubs" ... YMMV

I *think* (but I could be imagining it) that its in the addendum that PAG released some time after the CLs in response to some failures that occurred, it includes other fun facts like the maintenance schedule for the CLs', wheel hubs and the 'drive pins' (on the hub) when tracking - its something like 10-15mi interval ...

or ...I am just making this up ... and I need to adjust my meds!

I was talking to one of the Czinger crew yesterday about the cup2R tires they had to run to qualify for the production car record (well that and actually building the 80 planned units so it is a "production car") and he told me they felt they might get 5 optimal laps out of 2Rs before they were trashed. I guess getting 2 -5 days, depending on one's lap times, isn't the end of the world.
