I would've bought one (V2) but missed the group buy... Ended up buying a PI torque wrench and breaker bar instead. OEM and Forgeline GS1R wheels.

I think you might still be able to get in on the V2. I would email Renntorque and ask. I missed the V1 and emailed asking if I could get in on it. That's how I found out about V2. Just sent my payment in today. I think they want payment by Wednesday.

Is the V2 version still available on group buy pricing?

Its expensive but I'd rather have one than need one. Plus ince I watched the vid John provided, he was spot on that Porsche does it the same way but they use a gun on theirs. It's a really good tool to have.

I used this tool yesterday, and can't believe how simple it was to remove centerlock. Pressure needed is equal to or less than pressure required to remove five-lug wheels. Easy and fast one-person job to change wheels. Nice work, John.

Should note that I used it on two different sets of BBS Magnesium wheels. I had anxiety prior, but after seeing how it's made with softer polymer, I felt confident that tool would not damage my wheels. And more so after use. No marks or scuffs

Also, John showed me a cool hack. Invest in two torque wrenches, one for removal and one for installation.

Why two torque wrenches?

Using 2 torque wrenches just speeds the job up.

To remove the nut/wheel you will want the torque wrench set on 135 lb*ft (in case it takes more than 95 lb*ft to break the nut loose.) Remember, all the torque figures get multiplied by 4.7 to get the torque applied to the nut. To tighten the nut/wheel back on you will want to use 95 lb*ft. When you tighten you should use the official Porsche tighten/loosen 60 degrees/tighten again procedure as indicated in your car manual. If you only have a single torque wrench this means 4 settings changes per wheel, times four wheels on the car.

If you have two torque wrenches you can set one for each setting and not touch them at all as you go. Having two is not required, it just makes the job go quicker.

By the way, there are a couple of slots left for the V2 group buy. The firm close date for deposits is this Wednesday. If anyone still wants to get in you can - please let me know quickly.

Thanks,

John

Why is it necessary to use a torque wrench for removal? Couldn't you just use a ratchet or small breaker bar instead?

Pity I have already bought a 600ft/lb torque wrench... clever design - how does it interface with the finish on the wheel?

Hi Steve, you are correct that a 20" long, 1/2" drive, ratchet would work just as well as a torque wrench for removal as long as it had a fixed, non-pivoting head. The ones that pivot have more flex than I would like to see in this application. A breaker bar would slow the job down quite a bit as you really want the ratcheting action during the initial steps of removal.

Hi 2fcknfst, the white polymer barrel that touches the wheel is soft enough to ensure it does not mark or damage the wheel at all. Prior to use you'll want to clean the barrel and clean the area of the wheel spokes you will be making contact with.
