Congrats! Mclaren PHL is AWESOME. Chad and all the guys there run a tight ship. You'll love the 570 as well. I actually prefer it to the 720 believe it or not.

^^^^cayenne-tt I received the same excuse when I saw a deposit refunded to my credit card with no communication from the dealer... they had over $200k in deposits, and returned a bunch but I’m still on the list.

join the club ...I know the feeling 17 months of waiting and talking to over 50. Dealers and no one could get me a car.

taking deposits is a bad idea, since market fluctuates.

it stinks, but dealers are getting rammed by most Porsche product since a lot of stores are dropping their pants the second someone walks in - PANIC SELLING never works.

It sucks, but if you owned a store, and competition forces you to make slim margins on most of your product, and just a few items demand a premium - why wouldn't you maximize profit?

no deposits, no lists, its the sales persons responsibility to keep in touch with their prospective clients and when allocations become available - speak to your client.

that being said, some do, and others are not good sales people

Waiting to hear back from my dealer on this.... Hoping this is the case. Did you end up getting an allocation?

There are GT3 cars out there and this one will be worth it.
Keep looking, be a resilient smart shopper and don't close the door on Porsche.

After a history of $230k in GT deals (and twice as much future potential) my dealerdropped me from his GT list (three management changes in 2 years lost me in the shuffle). No problem, I found an allocation elsewhere on my own, leveraged the Arizona tax laws to offset ADM and have an allocation commissioned the way I want it.

Beware of Ferrari Tricks, for example after MY 2013 they give you 7 years free maintenance(oil changes) but only 3 years warranty. That means after year 3 onward when you go in for "free" servicing then they have a chance to examine and "find problems" which the dealership then gets the work/profit.

A LOT of Ferrari owners are re-discovering Porsche after "The Ferrari buying experience". ahem

If they don't have the cars to sell, what else can they do other than refund deposits?

Buying cars to get on an "MSRP" list isn't too smart. They sell you cars and end up screwing you over anyway. Pretty much buying an ADM on tanking depreciation on a Panny or Cayenne.

Those that spend years on lists and getting all upset, is it worth your time? A buyer could jump on board with a $15K ADM or so overnight and save all the headaches. Some people's time is worth more than years of dealer tricks. Most can make more $$ doing other things related to their career.

That is right. I can take your deposit and add to my bottom line, but never actually have an allocation to give to you. The money stays on my profit for the year, and is returned the following year.

Some of these dealers have like over $100K ++ on deposits for even 992 cars and Mission E's. Ridiculous. Interest free $$.

Maybe $200K++???

Who knows.

Every dealer I talked to, and there were dozens, all told me up front that they would take my deposit but they wouldn't promise a car. This was all 12-18 months ago. While I agree that a dealer owes everyone the courtesy of a phone call, unless they said with absolute certainty that an allocation was coming or they sold your car out from under you, there is really no reason to blame them. They simply don't have the cars to give. I think the mistake that a lot of people made was assuming that there would be enough cars to go way down these lists. So far it does not appear to be the case.

I feel your pain

However, 8 months is not a long time given dealers only get a small number of allocations. You may well find repeat buyers have had money down for several years.

I think the solution to this type of experience is simple. Dealers should tell prospective clients where they are placed on a list and also tell them how many allocations they received last time around. A client can then make a decision to put their money down with them or with another dealer and or multiple dealers.

For reference, as it currently stands I have two deposits with my local dealer -- they will have been in place around three years before the cars of interest are even released.

In short, if you want a new GT3 put money down now for a 992 Series 1 GT3.

I've owned retail stores and a wholesale distribution business for the last 15 years. I work with very slim margins and a large part of what I deal in are limited run items. I've never charged a customer over MSRP, or over wholesale to a retailer even though I could on a frequent basis. The reputation of my business, as well as the reputation of the brands I represent are far too important to me over making a few extra bucks marking up select items. Other guys do it, and over time their reputations along with their businesses end up suffering as a result. People get tired of the games and leave.....But what do I know..

I bought the Cayenne because I needed a new SUV. I would have purchased one anyway, but probably from another dealer. Find me a 15k ADM GT3 allocation, I have cash in hand!

It's just a car at the end of the day and I'll end up with something probably better and won't look back. It's just the dishonesty of the dealers that ridiculous.

I've heard this dealer has well over 250k in deposits. Interest free loans for as long as you need them... I'm in the wrong business.
