Even the pros had issues with blowing tires in winter testing for the Rolex 24 - new aero packages and weight requirements changed all the set up numbers...plus the teams that had never run there really struggled.
Rovals require a completely different set up than the road coarses... so if you don't change things before you go on the high banks, it probably doesn't matter what tire you're using...

Its not as much the tires as it is the set up. Most of us have our cars set up for normal road coarses - high neg camber, agressive toe settings, stiffly sprung, etc. Banking needs an entirely different set up due to the different loads put on the wheels/tires. R6 tires are soft, hence why they are sticky, so they will wear out much more quickly anyway, and if the set up is forcing excessive loads on certain parts of the tires, it happens even faster.

Nicely written and intelligent. At first glance, i got the impression he was complementing Porsche. In a way true but I also got the subtle impression he is promoting the P13. Got my attention.

I agree, he's definitely promoting the P13. I think it's perfectly acceptable to say that they like Porsche cars. It helps him in positioning McLaren, as he is explicitly doing in the article.

They certainly have my attention...
As for the car buying, it's very common place in the automotive industry. Nissan would also buy 911 turbos to use as a benchmark to build their GTR platform... Ford, GM, BMW, Mercedes and many other companies buy competitors' cars for comparative purposes...

He hits a much larger audience comparing to Porsche's than Ferrari or Lambo. And...lets be honest...Porsche's have always been the standard in performance that everyone compares to, so if he's promoting performance, it makes sense to compare to Porsche, not the others. Most sports car reviews will say "XYZ compared to a Porsche 911"

It's also interesting how the P13, 12C / 650S, and P1 all use the same (or a version of) carbon tub and 3.8L TT V8. The engine is tuned for more or less power and the car is blessed with more or less performance tech...and, viola, you have your model variants. Hmmm. That also sounds just a bit like the 911, no?
