Why anyone would pay 50k on a heavier than normal C2 Cab is beyond me. Wide body cabs went out with Miami Vice. However, as much as I love the Cayman and it's inherit performance potential. It will never have the build quality and soul that has made the aircooled 911 so famous.
P.S. I still love Miami Vice

Good 'marketing' by Porsche...a Roadster?, now really! I had a 60 B Roadster that I bought in '78 for $1000; it was sitting in a cow field. I put $2000 into it to get it running again. It was on the cover of Pano and VW Porsche mag. Sold it in '90 for $10,000. They are dragging them out of ponds and selling on Ebay for more than that. That car if sold now would enable me to buy a NEW Cayman S. Now that would be a return on your money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you Lorne, I have a CS and I have to say that since the 993, I have not enjoyed closing a door nearly as much. Oh well, I guess the power and handling make up for some of the "like a vault" door closing pleasure.

Man, I wish I could have gotten in on this thread earlier! Congrats bull on the America Roadster. I presume that you bought it from AIC Auto in PA - correct? I agree that the America Roaster is an undervalued car, and IMHO will appreciate in value once it is "discovered". I have a 94 Speedster which I purchased in 2000 to 1) minimize depreciation, 2) enjoy for 1K miles per yeat on Friday nights and Saturday mornings, 3) enter in PCA Concourse events. I have been doing this for 7+ years, and life is good!
1 Key Point: Why not post your analysis on the 964 board, as opposed to the Caymen board where everyone will find you "offensive"? As this thread has shown, you have gone a completely different route with your "change" in Porsches. I would buy a Caymen for DE or AutoX, and the AR for the pleasure drives with the top down, and of course concours events.
With that said, you have a very nice new ride - so enjoy it as you see fit!

My next Porsche purchase will be a Speedster either 1989 or 1994... Probably next year but no later than 2009... I really like the way the Speedster looks but this AR was in such immaculate condition I couldn't pass it up...

89 Speedsters tend to be the collector's choice due to the "turbo-look" rear end... I really like the America Roadster, and would have bought one but a "mint" Speedster was higher on my P-Car priorty list. In retrospect, I should have purchased an 89 speedster because it has a bit more soul than the 94. At the time, I wanted the extra power so chose the 94. As I now have a GT3 for the track, I have all the power that I need!
Enjoy the AR. It is truly a beautiful car. Hey - why don't you start a PCA "Registry" for the America Roadster? I bet that you could help to sustain resale values with a website that offered a "for sale" section. I am convinced that the 93/94 RS Americas are holding their value (actually increasing) because the guy who runs the RSA Registry has a very informative website which also offers a car marketplace (rsamerica.net). Just an idea...

Congratulations on your new car. It is very nice.
I noticed in one of your early posts that you felt that you were fooled or drawn in by the Porsche marketing of the Cayman and that it is just a boxter with a hardtop. I followed your reccomended link so that I could learn about the roadster and I ask, isn't a roadster just a look alike turbo cabriolet? It seems that the roadster is missing the main component that made its inspiration so highly regarded, the turbo's. Maybe I am just looking at this in simplistic terms or I could have missed a vital part of this thread that would help me understand. Either way, I hope your speculation pays off.
