As I posted earlier there's a tiny market for two seat cars and it seems like most manufacturers make at least one. GM has several, and then there's Mazda, Audi, BMW, MB, Dodge, Nissan, etc.
After the Ebay auction where I got ZERO bids, I had two guys real hot after it and another one somewhat interested. I ended up getting two offers for $51K (my car stickered for $63.5 and was purchased exactly one year ago). Guy in Reston, VA is buying it. Now, on to the 996tt search.

Let's say that you paid around $60K for the CS. So it cost you around $750 a month to enjoy the CS. Doesn't sound like a bad deal to me.

You're close. I paid $61K for it and put about $4k in wheels/springs into it. I sold the stock wheels (not tires too) for $1,500 so the net affect was $2,500. So $61K plus $2.5K for twelve months = $1,042/month to drive the best handling car and most fun car I have ever owned (although I have a feeling the 996tt will be more fun). Not too bad I suppose.

I realize its hard to get your money back on mods

He's getting what he really wants... Life is not an audition!!! Enjoy every moment and don't let others rain on your parade...

Can wait to see the TT when you get it... We'll have to plan another Drive & Dine for the DC Metro area...

Yes, I don't think you should include the mods in your calculations because they depreciated irrespective of the CS. I've never owned a 996TT but I've driven one on several occassions, and those dam turbos are addictive. Man, what a blast when you punch the gas pedal.

If you are talking to me, I didn't start the thread. I merely made a point that it was sold and the hit wasn't as bad as I thought I would take. But better yet, if you don't like the thread why in the **** are you even here commenting? Capiche?

That used to be my way of thinking too... I've been doing that for 30 years... Now I've decided to go the other route and let someone else take the hit... My next purchase will be a 1965 TVR Griffith... They're extremely hard to find but if you want fast it's the car to have... They only made the car 1 year and it's a TVR with a Ford Hypo 289... No rush... One will pop up eventually...

i say buy what you like, don't compromise on the ride and enjoy it while you have it........ remember, when you die, you're taking nothing with you..... why invest when in the end, it won't come back at all......

With all due respect the America Roadster cost about $90K in 1993 and you paid 50+K for it? If I'm not mistaken the car was on line for $56K. Kelly Blue book says a roadster is worth $36-$42K. Thats as much as $54K in depreciation over13 years. Lets see, that could have bought you a slightly used Cayman S that is faster, better handling and arguably better looking. PT Barnum had a name for that. NIce car and I certainly respect the lineage but if you are going to drive it it will depreciate quickly. Cars depriciate period. New 996 Turbos that could be had for $130K in 2002 -2003 are going in the $70's. Why slam the Cayman?

Hmmmm..... I think that just might make some sense if I bought the American Roadster new but since I didn't your point is mute... However, I did make the mistake of buying the Cayman new... Oh well...

Let's compare notes in 5 years... Betcha your Cayman S is in the 20's...

Unfortunately 996's aren't holding value... My wife had a 996 Cab which she liked a lot... However, 993 Cabs with more mileage are selling for more...
