Default Porschemaster.com Steering Wheel - Reviews?

Hey all.

I've got a 2015 Cayman GTS. Love the car and almost everything about it. Just not a fan of the Sport steering wheel. I've been looking at the porschemaster.com steering wheels as an alternative to buying an OEM GT4 wheel.

Wondering if anyone here has replaced their wheel with a porschemaster wheel? I did a quick search but haven't found any reviews on their steering wheels.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! (I posted this in the General Porsche Forum too, in case any other members may have feedback/reviews). Thanks!

I recently purchased and installed the Porschemaster steering wheel on my 14 CS. It was a 5-minute job to do.
I am very happy with it. The finish is on the wheel is very good and the logo on the airbag looks clean. The leather isn't as smooth as the leather on my original wheel, it has a slight texture to it. I like the feel of the leather. It gives a little better grip, and it seems to be a bit more durable than the factory leather. I was always afraid that I would scratch my original wheel getting in and out of the car. I have done that on past vehicles. Someone stated in another thread, that it was faux/vegan leather. The Porschemaster website lists as it as leather. It might be worth an email to them to ask them if it is real leather.
Overall, I like the look of the new wheel in my car. I think it makes it look like a newer car inside. For the price, I would get it again over a much pricier factory one. I have only had mine for 2 weeks, so I can't give any info on durability, but I don't see anything to lead me to believe it won't last for a long time.

I wouldn’t trust any aftermarket airbag. Maybe you can purchase a wheel from them without the airbag, and buy an OE airbag (if compatible).

Did you disconnect the battery and sit through the discharge procedure? in the video he said to let it sit disconnected for 30 - 60 minutes.

I have also seen all the warnings about disconnecting the battery on the Porsches. I did not disconnect it. I can't imagine anything that could make the airbag go off while the car is sitting still with the power off. I think it is more of a fear of the unknow/ why take a change thing that people do it and warn others about it.

I'm not too concerned about the aftermarket airbag myself, but I understand some people's concern about them. I'm sure 90% of all airbags are made by some Asian companies and I wouldn't be surprised if this was made by one of those companies that make OEM bags for some car company. Hopefully I never have to find out if I should have been concerned.

I did have to get a M12 bit (triple square spline), which I was surprised to be able to find at the local parts store.

Honestly for me disconnecting the battery was as much about safety as doing everything possible to avoid triggering an airbag light. Also it's in the range of "probably unnecessary but doesn't hurt to do it". And an hour is probably way overkill, 10-15 minutes should be plenty.

The airbag is from Germany. If I get mine out, I'll try to snap a photo.

It sure doesn't hurt to disconnect the battery and I wouldn't fault anyone for doing it. I don't remember having to reset the airbag light, but I think he did in the video posted above. That is probably hit or miss, whichever way you do it.

Here is a steering wheel from Porschemaster that the buyer decided not to use but kept the airbag. If anyone wants the new wheel but wants to use a factory airbag in it, he said he was going to sell it. You would have to check with him to make sure it will fit the factory airbag, but it sounds like he used the airbag in a factory wheel.

I hate to get away from the steering wheel topic, but this still stays with Porschemaster.com.
I have heard great reviews about the rear light bar that they have for the 981. I thought it was a bit pricy for what it is, not knowing if I would really like it on my car, so I made my own for about $50.
This is the thread that I used for the idea.
