Back with some more updates! The hood project is coming along, Joel at Marsh Composites has been working hard to make sure everything matches not only in direction, but with no seams and no mismatch layers. The Porsche Motorsports NACA ducts were copied over into carbon as well. The hood will ultimate be finished in Matte.
I am also working on a rear quarter window project for that "Cup Style" look. You cannot purchase the frame from Porsche, so if you plan to re-use it you must break the glass and clean it out. It is a long and tedious project.
Ive been wanting to add something to the Cayman’s doors that match the seats and floor mats. 981 door cards are not the greatest candidates that have sections you can upholster and make sense.
However, there is one piece that I thought would be subtle, easy to reverse and make sense. I purchased some material, some upholstery adhesive and was able to muster up some patience. Let me know what you all think!

More updates and projects getting done. I promise that I will post photos of the hood on soon. My one off rear quarter windows came in over the weekend from the UK. Thanks again to Alex at P4P for the design. While these are obnoxiously unneeded, they help continue the “Street Cup” theme.
Hood is finally on after getting some time to wrench in the garage. All new hardware and I messed up one OEM decal so good thing I bought two. Expensive mistakes. 997 2RS esque?
I also got my hands on new old stock, non “s” & non illuminated carbon sills.
Shifting focus to chassis tuning, suspension and powertrain.
The project backlog is large and I’m chipping away at each one as parts come in. I recently installed AP racing electroless nickel plated competition kit. The brakes are amazing and will work on the street and the track, perfect for the “Street Cup”. Also who doesn’t love the look of these nickel plated calipers, usually reserved for race cars, now fitted to the street car.
How do you remove the rear quarter window? is it very involved? I think I have a squeak coming from that area...
Removing the actual window and frame assembly is easy. Open your door and peel back the weather stripping which will reveal two nuts, top and bottom. The bottom one is actually an adjustment and will losses or tighten the window to the car. It takes quite a bit of loosening to remove the window. The window itself is also held in by a few clips towards the rear.
I know I stated in my previous post that the concentration was on chassis tuning, and it still is. However like a squirrel I was easily distracted.
I’ve always wanted a set of RSR mirrors. However the low production, high cost that’s passed down from the Italian company Compositech to PMNA then to its Motorsports customers makes them out of reach for most. They are also proportioned for a much wider track car (see original mirror in 4th picture).
After researching, speaking with several contacts from rally companies in England and Poland, I stumbled across a contact who could make exactly what I was looking for. The original Motorsport mirror doesn’t have the best angle for a street car and again the size wouldn’t be appropriate for street cars (out of proportion). These are slightly scaled down, with the correct door angle for 981/991/718 chassis and they don’t cost as much as a KIA Forte! Please note these would be manual (no power) but have full range “360” adjustment within the housing.
I’ve already been flooded with interest, more to come for those who want to purchase a set!
Mirrors finally came in, I was blown away with the gift I received as well. A hand drawn and painted picture of my car with the mirrors already installed.
The mirrors are exactly what I expected and working closely through text and pictures across the world there was no surprises which is what I like. These are of the hughest quality, and while manual they are less than half the cost of the actual RSR mirrors that everyone chases. The high cost low production that Compistech passes down to PMNA is why the original mirrors are $8k plus. Let me know what you think!

Very nice! You probably have the most unique 981 Cayman out there. And the picture was a great touch by the vendor...

Appreciate the kind words and yes, I'm trying to go a route and do something no one else is doing, thinking and forming my own opinions and I think the results are starting to speak for themselves.
This mirror project was an example of humility and shows that good people exist in all parts of the world. My contact who made these makes many parts for race teams, vendors here in the US and he is based in Russia. As you can imagine many people in that country do not agree with what is going on and they have been extremely hindered by the situation. It's nearly impossible to do business, and while some may have their opinions on it just remember, not all of us agree on what we do as a country either.
