I think he'd have to re-index the compressor ~180deg to make room to route the intercooler pipes.

as previously stated, no.

1 - to keep costs down

2 - not need for low boost applications

Keep working on it Carl!

Lets' walk before we run, here.

The first goal has been to make an affodable kit that allows the AC to stay and function. To what I have been told, this has never been accomplished, so the challenge is real.

Adding an intercooler will be a later consideration after this kit it complete and successful. Successful includes seeing the market buy the kit. If it does not sell, no further development will be performed on the kit.

The good news: you will probably not need an intercooler at all, anyway. We selected this supercharger for this kit because of its very high adiabatic efficiency. Adiabatic efficiency is a measure of the compressors' ability to compress air without heating it. Various designs (Roots, twin-screw, centrifugal, etc) have different levels of A.E. and many require an intercooler always as a result of the great heat they infuse into the charge air.

This supercharger has about an 85% adiabatic efficiency - very high. The impeller is ceramic coated to refrain from heat transfer to the air, and the compressor is extremely efficient.

We benefit from this because it keeps the charge air cooler and more dense (hot air is less dense than cool air) and it lifts the requirement of an intercooler from the install.

Would a intercooled version of this produce more HP than an non-intercooled version? Of course. Always. Cool air is denser than hot, so the mass air density is greater.

But lets get this done first and make sure it works to your satisfaction. Just keep in mind that this is not like other compressors/kits and an intercooler is not required. Strictly optional.

Did the Huntely Racing s/c kits that were announced in around 2002 (IIRC) never materialise? They were supposed to keep the AC too...

I think I saw the thread in one of the other forums a few days ago. I'll see if I can dig it up.

I think the Huntley kit used a roots blower under a custom intake manifold, and was expensive.

We are just waiting on the air filter to arrive. The fuel lines and FMU are installed. The pressure-side tubing is installed to the throttle body, and the MAF is installed. The cold-air supply tubing is installed. The K&N-style filter will be hidden behind the bumper, drawing air from the same location as before.

I hope to drive it Tuesday.

Then the tuning can begin in earnest.

Here is the remaining process: IF there are no leaks and the system performs well, and IF I do not have to install larger injectors (thats a lot of ifs), then we will post dyno numbers. Then we disassemble the parts from the car taking photographs as we go to use in the installation manual.

Our installation manuals are very comprehensive - you are welcomed to download and review any of them that you wish from this link to see how thorough we are:

http://www.928motorsports.com/install.html

With the parts out of the car, we can start to model production parts from these prototype pieces.
That will get me my final cost of the kit (the cost to manufacture the parts we have hand-made so far).

Dyno results will be very interesting to compare against stock.

Here are todays' pictures. Had it running, although our first air filters we had delivered have proven to be wrong and I have another one coming Thursday that should be spot-on.

Then we should be driving it, and perhaps off to the dyno!

looking great Carl....glad to see you got the DV so close to the TB....this should minimize spool when coming back on boost after pedal lift. I see an FMU in there as well....so I am assuming you are seeing the A/F's go lean under high rpm/max boost?

oh my! I need to change my pants!

Looks great, I'm busy trying to determine if I can adapt it to my Frankencar. Have you found a good push fan for the radiator that fits?
