Car getting a custom tune by Steve Wong on Tuesday!

Car drives awesome. Had a couple minor things to sort out - like gas pedal height adjustment, need to do a couple tweaks to suspension, alignment, but it's GOOD. Really good.

Car feels like a rocket with the weight out.

And I can really remember why I feel the stock gearing is kinda lame. 2 too short, 3 spacing too wide, etc.

Cool- It would be great to hear what kind of alignment specs in damper settings you up with once you get it dialed in!

I bet you’re having a blast! How does it feel compared to the 993?

I’ll get some of the setup info when i go back to the shop. The basics aren’t too crazy, but a lot of the setup is in the bump steer removal and tweaking of the spring rates, etc. I don’t have a 993 :-)

Buttonwillow, Chuckwalla, Thunderhill, Spring Mountain, on protest Autoclub speedway. Maybe this car can pass sound at Laguna... unlike my others.

I've been driving a boxster with a bigger engine for a while and now im back into the 964 I've realised how much harder it is to keep the 964 on the boil! I've been toying with changing the gearing for a while now but keep going back and forth on how to go about it! I like the idea of raising 1st and 2nd so they're closer to 3rd (like the rs) and then lowering 4th a little but everyone I speak to recommends going the other way and lowering all the first 4 or 5 gears. I'm at a fairly tight track tomorrow so I'll think about how well 2nd works! I'll be interested to see how you go about this. When i started project track car I hoped I'd get around the gearing with the 200kg I removed but with the engine tuning and cams it still needs some help!

See this thread. Some good info. I’m not sure I’d do RS gears exactly. May do something like below proposed by Matt at GT Gears.

https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...l#post15292068

Stock 964: 3.50, 2.06, 1.41,1.09, 0.87
Stock 993: 3.82, 2.06, 1.41, 1.12, 0.93, 0.78

There are some minor variations to 5spd based on year, but those are the 964 ratios. You can see you get NO gain with a 6spd until 4th gear unless you regear it. I just looked and the package we are doing for SW is:

3.154, 2.176, 1.526, 1.174, and stock 5th. Top speed in 4th is around 125-130mph. It is intended for a toy car, not a race car. You can do it without changing the mainshaft if you prefer and just leave it at 3.500.

the 2 graphs are revised ratios vs stock ratios vs RS ratios

top track speed in this car at the main tracks I’d use around here is about 120.

I drove this car and it is a BEAAAAAAAAST! The steering is so precise & shifting so on point, Spyerex i may do this shifter in my 964, surely won't be the same without the gearing but should be an improvement

You might even out the gaps in the lower gears by lowering 3rd:
