I have a 1990 early shock car. I had to get spacers such as the one in your picture to use the Koni FS shocks I wanted as they were only available in the later shock style. I think that early model mounts would be the simplest solution.

I’m leaning that way. The irony is that I had a spare set from a 1990 car and sent them to the UK for the cost of postage to help out a person with the same dilemma. As a local said, never sell parts fo a car you still own!
Thats what happens when you work with a lift. When I put the car back on the ground I had already fitted the fan and air box which block the view of the tops.
Here is another view of the parts. It’s clear why these don’t work. This was obscured when off the car as the springs held it up.
I visited a local parts shop to sell my spare 993 seats and he graciously swapped my new early B6 shocks for a late set, after checking the dimensions. No cost. I’m rapt. Now to get back home and fit them. Hopefully no more dramas.

Hi John
That was me, thank you very much. I still have the adapted Rennline mono-ball top mounts if they’re any use to you.

Thanks for the offer, but karma has almost certainly sorted it out with the suspension swap for no cost. As the later shocks are exactly the same dimensions as the previously installed RUF Bilsteins I should be all good now
RUF Bilsteins and Later model 964 rear shocks are all but the same dimensions. There’s just less height adjustment on the later Bilsteins. It should be enough for my needs.
Six years ago, I went on a 4,500 km (2,800 mile) road trip interspersed with four track days. That and a lot of other track days led to a gearbox refresh of my G64.
The box was initially filled with Swepco 201, but I found the shift quality not what I expected so I changed the fluid to a high spec GL5 75W 90 full synthetic one. While I thought the shift improved it still wasn't what I expected.
Looking back through posts on this subject I came across one from Andreas citing Porsche changes in 1999 which no longer recommended the GL5 for the G50 or G64 boxes. Unfortunately the ones that they recommend are not available in my country. I've decided to try Redline 75W 90NS to see if that improves the experience.
MobilLube PTX is not available in New Zealand. Shell Transaxle is now called Shell Spirax and is available locally but only in 20 litre pails (5 complete refills).
I’m hoping Redline 75W 90NS is the answer. I have near new synchros and am not getting the shift I expect.
Hey John, the "new" G50 will be going in this year to replace the tip. It's currently sitting on the garage floor without oil. Interested to see where you get to. Will take your advice on which Trans oil to use when we install her. Thanks.
