In my experience (not saying that I know more than you guys)....heat and humidity both over 80 consistently and things like this appear....along with mold where fingers touched, damp/strong odors and corrosion on exposed metals. When I saw that car - I oddly could smell it, too...having also noticed the gauges, etc.

Gotcha.

Of the what seems like give or take a hundred 964's I've viewed, I haven't noticed this issue.

very common, many of the “upgraded dials” are actually because of this. Also the trip odometer is due to a heavy hand on the button, also a very common problem on any 911….

Mine are doing this but only on the lighted bits. North Hollywood Speedo wanted $450 to fix it, in the midst of an engine rebuild I said no thanks, doesn't bother me enough but then, I am the guy with a "frown" not a "smile" under the bumper. I've said Porsh one or twice too as the wife cannot seem to pronounce it right.
Cobalt, you might try North Hollywood Speedo tom see where they get their parts......

Yep, I bought my C2 in Oct of 2020 at 43k miles and it was a well loved car. The photos prior to delivery show gauges in good order. When it arrived I noted a very slight de-lamination on the oil pressure/temp gauge up by warning lights. In the days that followed the peeling progressed downward quickly. I drove it for several weeks before a planned hibernation for the winter in the shop with a major service, underside detail, and various small projects to make it even more perfect. While in the shop the gauge was sent to Palo Alto Speedo for a new face and it came back perfect.

The perfect gauge next to the slightly cloudy tachometer glass drove me nuts so that was sent down to Palo Alto while I had new shocks and springs installed in June and now all is perfect on the gauges.

I figured that turbo would bring what it did. It had its issues. Wrong wheels, a bit rough underneath not well represented IMO and I have no doubt some skeletons but that is the going rate for one in its condition. Add another 6 figures for a really clean one or more these days. Just crazy.

I just spent some time redoing my gages I have multiples of each in various condition. I had a gage from an 89 and one from 91. The 89 had dual plastic lens that yellowed and delaminated badly yet the face was perfect the 91 had glass laminated to plastic and the face was just crumbling. the faces are glued in place so removing them is not easy yet the face from the 89 came off with ease and the 91 just continue to fall apart. The pointers from the 89 had faded and the 91 were perfect.

It used to be easy to get parts for these but I have had an issue finding faces glasses and bezels. I would like to rework what I have especially the leather ones.

89 plastic and 91 glass

faded and regular pointers

91

89

Finished gage after modifying bezel

Gages finally installed

I am sorry to say but he gave it away. It should have met the reserve of $1.5 at a min. Although that seems like a huge number evey Porsche that went across the block either did not sell or sold for way too little. A buyers auction for Porsche's IMO. Mecum has no idea what a Porsche is and they did not put any effort into promoting it as promised. I will never use or watch a mecum auction again. Great if you have some POS American muscle resto mod but not for german cars.

Soooo, the Bullitt Mustang is (original) and full of rust, rot, roaches, etc. And the price at a Mecum auction two years ago was $3.4M. Last fall the Risky Business 928 (actually one of three/most filmed) sold for $1.9M.

I would rather have the Bad Boys Turbo than either of the above cars all day long. In fact I would rather own my C2 than either of the above cars as well. Each to their own.

I agree the movie was a bit hoaky but the scenes are legendary and the car was as much a part of the movie as the two ***** dragging. Both of which are huge stars and made a movie franchise from it. Téa wasn't half bad back then either. When we showed the cars together the second people heard the black one was from the movies they all flocked around. I have countless people ask me if my car was the same model as the BB movie car and to me that speaks volumes. Nobody ever asks me if my 928 was the same model as Risky Business.

Yeah I think that's the point, for all these "star cars", there's the value of the car as any other one of similar ilk, and then there's the celeb factor, its fickle. No doubt a nice car, if it were on BAT it would bring nice coin, A 91 3.3 just went for $350K so $4-500K isn't unreasonable. Which means the celeb factor was a cool $1M. Not bad IMHO, but your right that Pcars never do well at those auctions. It was coincidental that BB was on tv the other day, I couldn't sit thru it, flipped back for the car chase at the end. Back when I first saw it half the audience was more upset that the Cobra was wrecked rather than the Porsche. I never could figure out the Risky Business car, but I think it may have gone to someone putting it in a collection of movie cars. The Bullitt Mustang is a different deal, there have been replicas of that card built for decades, Ford built an update tribute car, and you see versions at all the major auctions. John Wick killed a whole bunch of thugs over one, and Jay Leno took it for a drive on his show and talked about all the mystique of the car. So having the original even with all the warts is some real bragging rights. Personally I'd take the turbo too, but the movie just wasn't worth the extra mil for me...now if I could get McQueens 911S from LeMans...
