Wow it wasn't that long ago a 193,600 mile car was a donor car for around $8k.

Every time I hear about a car like this it seems to be sold off to build a singer or backdate. I think the day will come soon enough that there will be more 964 backdates than 964's.

I'm truly shocked no one ever called or emailed back when I asked "where in Hermosa Beach are you located...I would like to come look at the car".

Porsche made about 65000 964s total. Singer still under 150.
There's a ways to go.
So it might just be confirmation bias at work here.

Fair enough, but note that Singer donor cars
aren't limited to manual C2s. They accept C4 and tips.

And FYI, I saw data from Adrian Streather which had 6300 US C2/C4

Honestly, how many Singer's have you seen in person?

If that were only the case.

There are numerous charts claiming accurate production numbers which we have learned over the years are all incorrect. Adrian's numbers are all wrong. So many cars have been double counted, Vin numbers starting with 001 vs the actual first vin number begining in 061. There are the M718 coded vin number changes that we still don't have accurate data on and in many cases like the 3.6T were double counted along with some of the C2/C4's, RSA's etc. Even hagerty has production numbers for the 94 turbo as 937 when in actuality we now know only 335 Stock 3.6T's were imported to the US. Then everyone clumps cars like the 3.6RS, 3.8RS, turbo, Turbo S, speedster, RSA, Widebody coupe US and Jubilee, cup cars etc. together. There were more cabs made than coupes. This brings the numbers of eligible C2/ C4 coupes down considerably. Why do you think it is so hard to find a nice C2/C4 lately and 30k mile examples are now seeing close to 6 figures.

When talking just C2/C4 coupes the number is quite low. US spec production is very low with only 3862 89-91 C2/C4's made (Closer to half were C4's) and 1275 92-94 C2/C4's made including tips. We are not at the point where I have seen RSA's used for backdates. Then we have to consider how many have been crashed, abandoned, totaled, have salvage titles, or just plain parted out. there was a time not that long ago you could count nearly 30 cars a month being parted out in the US. I would venture to guess that the total number of C2/C4 coupes surviving today in the US that are not already converted and are worthy of buying is a very small number. Most likely half or less of total US production are still around and a small % of those worth buying.

No doubt there were 22,000 C2/C4 coupes made for the ROW market and now that the 25 year law is making more cars available. But these cars are spread out over the entire world and finding nice ones again is tough and how many have been converted or totaled.

So when you consider just C2/C4 production of around 27,000 produced and consider how many can no longer be counted I imagine the actual number available world wide is far lower than we think. 27,000 is a far cry from 65,000.

I have seen 7 Singers in person. Then there are dozens of others using the 964 for backdates. I can probably count 50 or so that I have seen that were crap. The other issue is a singer car is only a candidate if it comes with its original matching numbers engine which also narrows the list.

How true they only imported 160 of them to the US. I know of a bunch of the 94's that have been totaled at the track.
