For me my oil cooler fan does not come on in normal behaviour (I know the fan speeds do work when I jump the relay). It's my CCU not doing its job. However, it's been like that for years and my oil temp has barely ever lifted above the 9 o'clock position even in long mid-summer queues on long trips in France.
I meant it is running the fan enough to cool. So we have another problem to sort. Thank you for explaining the system a bit more. I will get to this as priority before we get back on the road in the south Florida summer, assuming we can get there.

It's the CCU temp sensor input from the oil cooler that's playing up, or not functioning, in my case. Have you tried swapping out the oil cooler relay? - I think the condenser (A/C) has the same relay. I made a short jumper lead for my oil cooler relay should I need it in an emergency where the temp just goes crazy.

Anyone know the difference between the 964 C2 and C4 dash clocks and warning lights. I ask as I see there are two different PET numbers for these; 993 641 701 00 and then 964 641 702 00 (note saying Carrera 4). Needing a clock that has a functioning alternator warning light (D+ from alternator) as without this working (light illuminated with ignition-only on) there is no alternator charging.

Noticed that my Speedo reads approx 5mph higher then Waze does on my phone. Other/newer cars, Waze is usually spot on. Is this common on these older cars or does something need addressing?

Same as you - approx 5mph. Still, not unexpected - GPS always likely to be more accurate than wheel sensor and ECU interpretation I guess. If on a long trip I place in front of me on the dash a spare mobile phone I have with the DigiHUD Pro app installed. Awesome functions and great display with custom settings.

Here's another - Real Cup 1s vs Maxilite reps. Pros and cons of each? I know the width and offset seem to be better on the reps and the price is certainly right. Any reasons to go with the real cup 1s?

Why do the drilled and vented Zimmerman brake rotors have this little depression cast into one edge? Wouldn't that ever so slightly throw off the balance of the rotating assembly?

With John. after casting and machining a final balance 'shaving'. You have the other disc with roughly the same machining - more or less?

Most definitely done to balance the rotor as said. Although usually the cut isn't that large but that would depend on the casting.

I am aiming for the silliest question here. Why does the engine decklid light on a 964 have positive and negative markings? Polarity should not matter to a light bulb.

My guess is that it has to do with the alarm module using the switch going to ground to activate the alarm but that’s just a guess

It unscrews, then the insert needs to be carefully pried out.
