Yes I might be being a bit harsh - car smells & sounds better and is running slightly cooler without the gunk!

after the engine was back in and going I did a clean from the bottom side
then ran it to dry out and look for leaks ... made this vid

Is this (higher pitched tic-tic-tac-tac) the sound of valves that need adjusting?
Notice anything else ..
.. beside my adhoc heat screen for the plug wires on the LHS bank
.. some water drops
.. peeling valve covers - replacements almost here

oh well ... guess everyones out and about ... no more insight re the vid/tic above

Well gladly I got a call this am as my very late Xmas box finally arrived - thanks to the weather in the US in late Dec ...
must admit it feels like Xmas again though! Gotta love well packed boxes full of heavy metal.

Also in the box - Apbiz door pulls & RS carpet kit, RennLine Pedal Board/Backing...
sadly the 964 odds & ends (relays etc..) I ordered off RL were delayed so missed this package
.. will have to wait for March but they weren't critical.
Proper Porsche flagged wheel centre covers are critical though dammit!

Very, very impressed with the beautifully CnC'd Billet valve covers from Tom at RennLine ...
and thanks for the advice RL re the silver or black rather than the polished lip ones
I guess this means its finally time for my first valve adjustment - the vid above sounds very tappety to me

F1st transmount inserts - look solid - Luka did a great job getting them to me in 2 days to make the package
will fit them right after the carpet install done

Guard Trans in Colorado also deserve a big thanks! for finding just the right kit for my LSD and suggesting I just try these bits
rather than get a whole new one/refresh done
.. cheers Matt!

It is always very hard to know with sounds. But I'd say a loose valve/rocker arm is a good guess and a good place to start.

Cheers Marz ... Nice one

Thanks Geordie ... And thanks for the early inspiration ...
Well advanced now. You owe use an update don't you

Took the car for a 20km drive post removing 90% of the glue ...

Must say it sounded, inside, like my first car ... A 74 Beetle ...
Actually worse .. Much worse... I've been spoiled by my water cooled cup it seems!
The exhaust sounds tinny the intake roar too extreme the engine ... Not for road at least.

Came home and weighed the stripped stuff - about 35kg ...
And decided straight away to 'spend' 10kg on sound deadening ..
So this bitumen based product then closed cell foam then Apbiz RS Kit

Here's the first 2 kg in ... I like the long drives too and chatting with passengers
But in 'cup' car form it was never going to be do-able ... And I can't believe the RS carpet
Kit - quite thin after all - would make enough/much difference on its own

Anyways ... Horses for courses .. Should take about a week to get done after work etc...
Using decibel meter to track progress as each layer goes on ... Any advice appreciated!

Looks good. I was going to add a bit of sound deadening to the rear of mine. What product are you using? Are you going to stick the closed cell foam on top of the foil?

Nice work HiWind

Just enjoyed reading through your thread, glass of red in hand

Too much noise is no fun after a few minutes, it's ok if you can put the car on a trailer and take it home afterwards.

There's a nice balance for a steet car, I'm still looking for it

Cheers,
Paul

Nice work. Just make sure the rocker shaft bolts are tight as this can cause the tic tic tac sound. Let it go too far and it will foul the camshaft which is not nice
