UK 964 Track Day Club

A group run to Llandow with overnight B&B before the trackday sounds like a good plan for sometime in 2013.
It is a small and bumpy circuit , best plan is to not have too many cars on at same time. not a lot of overtaking room widthwise , chicane is a good place to learn lift off oversteer

Just bumping this up to remind folk that three of us are out on track on Friday. Weather is looking optimistic for the day. If anyone wants to pop along to say hello, you're very welcome. Kettle in the garage will always be on.

I guess, yes!
Seems to do what it says on the tin and it made the difference between me getting out and going home for an early bath
Had a great day with Boxsey, and before he posts the video I have to admit that I should have followed the jedi master for a few laps more, but I failed to heed his advice and nearly wrote the car off on the exit of Lodge....but I didn't...so always treated that corner thereafter with the respect Boxsey said I should! What a wise man he is
Will download my video and post (inc spin) asap....
Thanks to Boxsey for the tea, wise words and help with learning the lines!
Oulton is a great circuit, probably the best in the UK in my opinion....

Yet another great day at Oulton Park. Grant arrived the evening before so myself and Mrs B joined him at his hotel, close to the circuit, for drinks, fish n chips and chat. The next day we woke up to overnight rain but by the time the briefing was over and the sighting laps done, there were just a few damp patches on the track.
Unfortunately Kevin (Asbi) never made it to the track owing to battery problems with the RS that never got solved in time. However ras62 (Rob) joined us in the morning to watch how we got on and then Mike came along to take lots of on track photos for us.
As usual we started off steady to make sure the cars were going well and set the tyre pressures. With it being Grant's (cheeksyboy) first time it was also good to start steady while he learned the circuit because Oulton can bite if you overcook it in the wrong place. He soon discovered how true this could be by having a little spin at Lodge corner in the first proper session. Fortunately, the circuit only took a bite out of his pride.
As the day went on we had loads of fun on track. Most of the time circulating together, swapping and changing the lead. With low numbers booked on the day we had as much track time as we wanted and track manners were excellent. There was some good company out there too; Audi R8, Nissan GTRs, Maclaren MP4-12c, 997GT3 RS and even a Stealth GT1 race car. Our little 964s held their own nicely despite only having half the horse power of those mentioned.
Grant really got the hang of the circuit by the afternoon and showed what a nicely set up 964C2 and good driver can do round there. And he now knows what a great challenge Oulton Park is and why it is regarded by many (including myself) as the best circuit in the UK.
A few of my snaps:

at 47 seconds, why did you change gear at 5000rpm?
actually your revs looked very low for the full video? why dont you change gears at the redline?
what happened with your downchanges during braking? looked like you were always a gear too high & you were missing a lot of engine braking benefits from those big rear tyres.

I was always much slower through Lodge apex thereafter, and braked earlier too!
I wasn't the only one who fell off there.....and at least I didn't cause a red flag like other casualties!

so .. 0.47 = 5000rpm
also 1.03 = 5500rpm
also 1.15 = 5800rpm
also 1.26 = 5800rpm
pretty low compared to the 6800rpm redline.

In other words, why not change up at the revs we choose, it's our cars and we'll enjoy them how we wish.
Maybe you can direct me to footage of your on track action and I can revel in your constant red line gear changes?
