Definition of a frustrating buyers experience;
Make an appointment to see a car of interest.
Travel over an hour via public transport to see said car with checkbook in pocket.
Arrive to find out the car is out for service.
Spend three hours at a nearby shopping center waiting for car to return.
Killing time at Starbucks receive email that second choice car with appointment to see tomorrow has sold out from under me.
Decide to cut my losses and head home only to find out that my return ticket is invalid for some reason and have to buy a new one.

Before you say it, I do realize I'm being a whiny little b@#@h. I just felt the need to vent. Definitely a sellers market in the UK right now for 964s.

I'm going to see an interesting 997 tomorrow. Hadn't considered a water pumper but I'm afraid my impatience is getting the better of me.

That sucks Nate - I'm guessing that was the dealer mentioned a few posts ago ? If so, their actions seem to suit their reputation. Terrible salesmanship.

I was in a similar position this time last year, unable to find a 964. I got impatient and bought a very nice 997 4S, with X51, ceramics etc etc. It was a great car but never really hit the spot for me interns of driving reward. Sure enough i sold it on after 7 months and went back searching for a 964 which I found a few weeks ago

Good luck with your search.

Tony

Sucks! Sorry to hear your troubles. Perseverance is key.

IMO don't buy a 997 if you're after a 964... at some point you'll end up wishing you'd bought a 964 and by that time they will be thinner on ground/ more expensive and your 997 will have depreciated.

If you want a 964 now isn't time to get cold feet! Just my pence worth. I have a lead on another 964 - PM me for more info.

Alright, you guys have swayed me. I'm going to put off seeing the 997 in my current fragile state so as to avoid doing something I might later regret I did at least get to look at a 964 yesterday at the dealer (overpriced and GR) and I do indeed want one badly. And yes, this was at the previously mentioned dealer.

Have you considered this one?

The dealer is located near(ish) to where I live although I don't know them and have not seen it in the flesh.

Yes, I've seen that ad and would definitely consider the car if it were close enough to inspect. Spec, color, and price are right. Maybe it's just me, but there's something a bit 'dodgy' looking there. It strikes me as the kind of car that you would want to lay hands on in person before making any commitments. Also couldn't find any information on the 'dealer' whatsoever.

Looks like a nice car, but another that is advertised incorrectly. It was probably first registered in 1993, but it's a car built in 1990-1991 from looking at the pics. Seems like high mileage for the price too?

For anyone interested, the visual differences which you can use to identify the older cars are:

Pre MY91 (cars made until around Sept 1990) - Alu intake on engine
MY91 onwards (Oct 1990) - plastic intake on engine
MY92 onwards (cars made from around Oct 1991) - revised rear seat back release button now on top of the seat back)

As sales were slow when these were made, a lot of earlier cars were not actually registered in the UK until some time after they were made, which has resulted in earlier cars being wrongly dated.

Can't blame you for thinking 'dodgy'. I know all the usual Pcar dealers around here but this is a new one on me. Like yourself I've found no dealer info on them. Maybe they just got lucky and picked up from a friend of friend or similar. Date permitting, I'd be happy to give a second opinion if you decide to go and have a look. If good, you'd then want one of our local specialists to look it over. I could even contact a dealer friend to find out if he knows anything about the dealer in questions. The only danger of this is that if it's a good car my 'dealer friend' might snap it up and put it up for more!

BTW there's a white C4 closer to you. Private sale but looks like quite a bit of TLC needed:

relatively cheap though!

I think you're right Andy. Even though it's a 93 K reg it's likely an earlier car. It might even be a 90 because that manifold might be painted black rather than plastic - difficult to see from the pics? However, I like the little things you can see in the pics like the Porsche bar code sticker on the shroud which shows that the owner has things replaced. Interior looks nicely cared for too. Only thing I'm not too keen on is the spoiler.

Good spot Gary.

BTW the more I think of it, I have actually seen this car around here. In particular, I remember seeing it parked up at race meeting at Oulton Park. I guess that at least proves that it has moved once in a while.

Based on your description of dealer and car it sounds like this one???......

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifie...--1989/3716980

What's interesting is that towards end of last year it was on ph as private sale twice if I recall correctly around £27-28k...took a while to sell. Then appeared on ph again just a week or so ago again as a private sale at £35k....guy seemed to have spent some money on it at Fearnsport. The seller is relocating so may have it sor with them. Any idea how much they want for it? I was thinking £40-50k. We just hope for the current owners sake he sold it to them and its not sor as these guys don't gave the best rep.
