Think I've seen this somewhere but can't find it now. Downloaded the software. Lots of thanks to those who made it possible.
It runs great on my desktop with Windows XP Pro as on my old notebook running windows98. Now I would really like to run it on current notebook (Toshiba running Windows XP Home) but no luck. Think the page may flash quickly once after loading before going back to the desktop. Anyone have any ideas?

From the 928 Forum:

Your product is essentially "there", but those guys with their "egos" and DIY natures
AND inverted value systems, i.e. time has no value, may be the main obstacles.
What they have now works, but is rather "Mickey Mouse" and is prone to possibly
damage ECUs if not built and connected properly.
Why "re-invent the wheel", when the Spanner exists?
Hopefully, everyone will benefit a from mutual interaction.

I wouldn't have expressed it quite like that Loren, but the "Spanner" has the K and L line interfaces, also an RS 23 to talk to a PC.
If "someone" wants to write code for an ATMega128 inside, then it is a possibility...
At present the Spanner is working just as a flashing code tester, but I built in full "Hammer" K and L line capabilty.

Loren - I don't know what you mean by saying John's product is essentially "there" if that is meant in the context of being useable on a 964? Because the fact is that, today, it isn't and despite earlier indications that there could be development of the 928 tool to make it work on a 964, John publically made it clear that that wasn't going to happen, for a number of reasons but the economics of further work being one. At that point I stopped waiting on him.......
So these "guys" filled that gap. And rather well too, despite seemingly offending your commercially based value system. And hey, if this "mickey mouse" solution spurs a separate commercially available (if pretty expensive) solution then I've got no problem with that.
But your potential market has diminished by one as I'm real happy with what those guys with their "egos", "DIY natures" and "inverted value systems" have come up with. And by the way, I think the proper term is "hobby" and more appropriate descriptors are "talented" and "altruistic"

The pc interface seems to be the problem that keeps popping up.
I dont know if you have been following the 993 discussion on this excellent software but a really neat little four transistor circuit has been posted.
For fun I put it together and it works with my XP Dell.
All it needs is a piece of breadboard ( Vero board in the UK ) and a very few components .It will take 15 minutes to build and is very easy !!
Just thought I would mention this as it would be a shame to let this interface get in the way of having some fun !!!
All the best
Geoff

Just to clarify - it is uneconomic for me to continue the development of the Spanner for 964/993 as this would require a major re-write of the code. If someone was prepared to do this FOC then I would be preared to work with them.
Alterrnatively, if there is a need for a "productionised" version of your hardware, I would be prepared to cost it and see if there is a viable option there, for those who prefer to buy a complete, test version, ready to go.
All credit to those of you who developed your tester !
