Wouldn't that be great? (Says he as someone with absolutely none of the required software skills).

Just a couple of thighs:

- Can some one post a pics showing what leg/s of what led/s need to be cut?

- Any ideas on other uses of the interface? For example, can it be used on other ODBI vehicles? Which ones, with what software, … Many we should do a list of uses and/or combinations…..

Well everything was going to smoothly so I decided to pretty up my setup that was working great. I think I put my plug in wrong in the car plug in the poor light last nite and now my interface has a burned smell and wont work. I dont see any obvious burned spots. I tested all my wires for continuity and voltage so it isnt a broken wire to the interface. I used 2 different computers and 2 different 9 pin cables. When plugged in and I reconnect the inside cut led it lights up but when I start the program it wont flash. When I turn the ignition on it goes out completly. The outer led does nothing. I have checked everything I can with my limited electrical skills and equipment. I was wondering if anybody in the US that knew how, if I send the board to them, would be willing to test the board for me before I send off for another one. They are out of stock again and no date posted for more coming in. I knew I should have left well enough alone

This style (ISO9141) of interface will work with just about every european (and some japanese) cars made from the mid-eighties to today, including the 996, etc. You can find free OBD2 software through google.

Check your fusebox before you order a new interface (i forget the fuse number).

Yesterday I finally got the chance to try it and IT WORKED JUST FINE!!!!!

It's just fantastic.

Now one question: Any ideas on how to change the values to metric units?

MA70080,
Just edit the config file and do the summs to convert degF to deg C etc.

Well, I guess it's that simple, but I tried with no luck. Tried to introduce the conversion factor form degF to degC (degF-32/1.8) on the "((n*155)/100)-26" and didn't get it to work.

Where exactly does the scantools.cfg file calculates the values?

Thanks.

This is the line that I used:-

Actual Value.Intake Air Temp (°C)=0x37;((((n*115)/100)-26)-32)*5/9;###°

On the 933 board you can find the following post: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/271313-1995-obd1-diag-tool.html

They are conecting to the alarm. Can this be done with our cars?

Might be worth trying address 64 at 9600 baud which is what we use on the 993s. Just add an alarm set of codes into the config file. If this doesn't work worth trying some other addresses and baud rates and see if you get a response.

[Alarm]
address=64
baudRate=9600

If Marks suggestion doesn't work you might look at the schematic for the 993
in that same thread. The airbag is polled on the K line in the 993. Perhaps
some change is needed for the alarm in 964.
There is a jumper that switches the RTS output to the K line for Airbag, 993.

To add confusion. In 993 there is a K line for Motronic and a different K
line for all other controllers. The schematic reflects these options.

Just tell me where to send the money!!! Seriously - we could just get rennlist to post the FAQ for this here. I am so lost on this thread but want to jump on this immediately - and who knows maybe actually put my software skills to work at something fun for a change...

Please do, but carefully. This may be urban legend, but there is a story circulating that someone deployed the airbags while poking around in the diagnostic system.

I'd like to discuss readings I take with the rest of you messing around with this stuff. I think I will start a thread later and see if I get a response. I don't know how many people are using this for diagnostic purposes yet.

Actually it would be a great idea to have a relation with the normal range for the values, minimum and maximums, etc....
