On the walk around video of this car they claimed the cage in the back and fire extinguisher was a factory option. To my knowledge these were not available on the basic or RS Lightweight. Only the NGT Clubsports were able to get cages and fire extinguishers.

There is a nice America Roadster on BaT that @cobalt and I were commenting on.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1992-porsche-911-america-roadster-2
Other than it being a USA/Canada VINd car why would it be considered part of the America Roadster cars ? It has much more in common with the RoW WTL Cabs. I didnt want to highjack the thread anymore than I already did so I thought Id post the question here and provide my thoughts.
my main thought is this is no more a Roadster than a Taycan can be called a Turbo by the simple fact that a Roadster (regardless of make) should only have 2 seats (or 3 if a bench) and no rear seats. (And you cant have a Turbo in electric Taycan). A Boxster/718 is a roadster. A 911 Cab is not. A Miata is a roadster. A BMW 3 series convertible is not. According to Miriam Webster and Wikipedia I think Im correct!
A Porsche Speedster is a Roadster.
The America Roadster was an homage or sorts to a 356 which was 2 seater.
according to Turbo-look.de:
The Turbo-Look Register lists all cars with a US VIN as "America Roadster" which is for the sake of simplicity, but in our opinion is rather incorrect!
i think simply based on the 2 rear seats Id have to agree!
any thoughts?

AFAIK and I have to find the factory Technik Info guide to verify but the US spec AR's should all be 2 seaters. The factory called them roadsters which is appropriate. Porsche NA was showing how desperate they were to sell anything so a limited run of America Roadsters to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original AR was hashed up. At about that time my friend sold his 356 AR to the factory which I believe was the 17th car or last one made. I don't think the promotion did much for sales back then. They were nearly as expensive as a turbo or 928GTS so they sat.
I agree it has little to do with the original and doesn't follow the philosophy of what the original AR was but still If I had to own an air-cooled cab the Cobalt blue AR I missed out on would be one. Ideally the cobalt blue turbo cab would be special.
BTW IIRC there was a red 964AR for sale at the now defunct Jess Jones Porsche in North Bergan or there about. I used to drive by for years and watch it spin on their rotating display. It didn't sell till the 993 came out IIRC.

FYI...
1990 C4 with 130k miles
A few mods (coilovers, cup clutch & LWF, & a few other items).
Involved in house fire, got the car out of the garage, but the heat still got to it.
Settled with insurance co. for $107k + last month.

That was and from what I see will again b a beautiful car. Might have a bit of an odor for the discerning nose...

That was a pretty generous settlement from the insurance company. Who says you need an agreed policy? Especially in this market...

I had just prepped the car for photos in order to insure it through Grundy.
At first, State Farm thought it was just another 33yo car and immediately totaled it and then once they actually began looking into the value, they started dragging their feet.
Once they determined that they could not find any local comps they began searching nationwide (as did I). No auction results allowed!
We both came up with the same results. A low of 80k and a high of 140k (rare color & ultra low miles).
I have enough to deal with in the rebuilding of my house and just wanted to get the car settlement over and done with.
No immediate plans to replace it. Perhaps a early long hood when the house is completed.

Merit Partners just got in this GP White RoW RS. Asking $280k. Looked at this car a year or two ago and was a good driver quality example.
