I was thinking more like along the firewall and driver side "frame rail", but yes it will be near the intake manifold.

Yes please!

Other than that, looks good. Id put that in my car in a heartbeat.

The trap doors I'm planning to use are aluminum and they're supposed to be riveted. Also I think the lower pan and baffles will be steel, so I wouldn't be able to weld them anyway.

Yes, I am designing the position of the trap doors so they can't interfere with each other or with the pickup. These particular trap doors have hard limits that prevent them from rotating up more than about 45 degrees (to prevent them from flipping all the way up and sticking up there).

Count me as interested depending on final dimensions.

I'm also interested in a FMIC, keep me in the loop please!

Right, but I was talking about the circular part of the hinge that rotates, right here:

I was concerned that when pressed tightly up against the wall of the baffle box, the moving plate's hinged connection would rub on the wall and be sticky. Upon further inspection of the trap doors, I see now that they are sufficiently bent outwards in a way that this won't happen.
Seen here:

So we're good. I answered my own question 😁

I’m looking at finding something like this with measurements to allow me to pass through the factory intercooler holes in the nose . I can have one made by Griffin , don’t know about a price yet .

Here's a potential intercooler if you don't care about going up through the factory holes in the core support. Says it's good for up to 550 hp. LINK
I wonder if it would fit without cutting the factory sheet metal structure between the "frame rails"

The one I have for my widebody car is nearly identical to this. It’s an eBay bar and plate job designed for a FD RX-7. Super inexpensive and I’ve had good luck with those intercoolers in the past

No-- between the frame rails ahead of the radiator is less than 25".

I mean something different.... I think the typical FMIC mounting on a 944 requires this sheet metal beam between the rails to be cut out (in red).

Here's a pic of a FMIC mounted, and shows where they cut out that sheet metal and welded in a tubular cross beam.

And shown in yellow is what I'm suggesting. The intercooler pipes would go around the outside of that 25" frame you're referring to. They would come up in the space behind the headlights.

Anyone going to 944 Fest? It's in a few weeks at Nelson Ledges Road Course (northeastern OH). Unfortunately it looks like we are not quite going to have Mike's car running in time, but I plan to bring my car with everything mounted up (everything that that we have so far, anyway).

Mine hasn't been running for almost a year, so I'm probably not going to 944 fest 😂
