I've found that a dirty air filter (k&n in the fender) didn't result in much loss of power but it did change my pressure ratio enough to put the turbo (gt3071) into surge at lower revs on my 2.5.

Yes, you found it! Has to be a top 10 If not top 5, 951. Beautifully done car.

If the article posted by Josh is accurate , looks like the single large filter pictured would fit the bill and make things much simpler. I still want to install my filter in this location, but a single filter would make life easier. Looking forward to your results.

Awesome I look forward to that. I'm still running the stock IC pipes and figure it wouldn't be all that bad of an idea to have a better set with fewer bends in it.

I also like that cold air thing George made. Slick. With all my digging into my rich AFR's I noticed my IAT's are pretty damned high on warm days. I have to figure that pulling air from behind the fender (and not smack up against the coolant bottle) would have to help with that. My only concern is keeping the filter dry when driving in wet weather - I don't want to risk sucking up water.

OmniGLH check out this bypass valve.

This will help to prevent water being ingested into the engine.

That foam connector is basically a small air filter of its own so it can draw in a little bit of air on its own, but not much compared to the filter itself. Air is going to take the path of least resistance so if the main filter is submerged air will still be getting pulled in further upstream. Since FI creates its own suction this effect will possibly be lessened, which is probably why they don't recommend it for use with FI.

Back on topic

So today I started to Tig weld my IC pipes and IC mods. I must say Tig welding aluminum is NOT easy. A pretty major factor if you decide to make your own pipes. In the end my friend felt so bad for my weak attempts that he offered to weld them for me. We got everything tacked and I will pay him for his time to finish them up ($50/hr). I have had pretty good luck doing most of my own welding up to this point but rather than ruin the fab work I threw in the towel. I do have a new appreciation for aluminum fabrication.





Also, got the new adjustable cam gear installed.

I'm in the process of setting up a TIG welder for this type of work. Not sure why you say it is difficult. All the youtube videos make it look easy.

haha so true. I practiced for quite a while and actually got pretty good a laying a bead down but when you get to welding different thickness material at difficult angles it really changes the game. I am pretty good at stuff like this but just cannot invest the time to really get the "touch" needed. What unit are you getting? I almost bought the Eastwood AC/DC Tig last week.

Also thanks for the heads up on the cam gear, the Tommis Billet gear does not come with the TDC notch so I laid it over the stock gear (aligning the key slots) and marked it (red mark).

As much HP as you are running, I would invest a little more into a Kevlar belt. I can't remember, you might be interference free, then I guess not worth it.

More than nice; the non-interference design alone makes building hybrid-stroker worth it!
Sid had a catastrophic water-pump failure while on the highway last year, totally trashed the timing belt. This would have also trashed the valves & head at minimum. But with it being non-interference, he just threw on a new water-pump & timing belt and then drove home.

Totally agree Josh, my next project will be one of these bad boys for sure! Well a variant anyway, searching for a 3.0L with bad cylinders now.
