acceleration times relies on torque curve then peak horsepower. Acceleration time over a power figure any day though

Last time I chatted with Dave from CEP he definitely seemed to have a power/displacement number in mind for when it's time to go to a bigger TB (though I don't remember the actual #'s he was talking). But Shawn I'm guessing you're past that point where he'd say a bigger TB is needed.

Throttle Body mod. Not a huge improvement but very simple and easy to do. Eliminated one side of the TB shaft and a bit of knife edging of the forward edge of the plate.

I just read all 26 pages. Wow. I really want to get on this. But need to finish my twin turbo swap on my Audi first.

Shawn:

I have been reading about George D's build on RW and in particularly his really cool CAI. If he did his calculations correctly, you will have airflow restrictions due to your air filter unless you have installed something similar. You are at the same power level as his car now so I think your flow rates should be very similar. Have you all ready looked into this?

From the other thread:

The estimate was done estimating 650 flywheel hp at 6300rpm. This showed the intake sucking at approximately 800cfm. The cfm of the filters, two at 2.5" inlet and one at 3" would flow at approximately 1100cfm when new and clean. This would be at approximately 18 psi.

George

Here is a filter size comparison done by CarCraft on a 520hp motor:

http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...er_comparison/

According to them, the different filter sizes they ran did not have an affect on hp/tq.

I too am curious on if the filter is going to restrict Shawn or not... easiest way to find out will be to simply remove it for a dyno run and see.

Good read, kind of hard to believe that size doesn't matter. Did I just say that?

I looked a this a couple weeks ago because a pretty knowable guy at the dyno thought the filter may be a restriction. My calculations assumed 150 cfm for every 100 hp. For 550 rwhp that comes out to about 920 cfm. Some rough design calculations on the K&N website seem to indicate that it should be fine but I do plan to test with/without to verify.

I cleaned and re-oiled my filter before the trip to the dyno:

The crimp pliers are interesting option. Still only valid if you are using Al pipe. I have stainless compressor side pipes on my Audi. Have had to weld beads on modified pipes....

My IC Pipes are making great progress. Going to Tig weld everything tomorrow. One of my customers is letting use their ac/dc Tig. I am going to do a write-up with a list all the supplies to build your own custom tubes for just over $100. This includes silicone couplers and t-bolt clamps! The home-made tool I posted about earlier to make beads worked perfectly. Crimpers were $24 from Napa (part no. 726600).

Just for the record, bought a 3L short block on Pelican for $500 plus $250 for shipping last week. The 3L crank AND block were in very good condition. Not to mention it included pistons and rods. Good deals on this stuff can be found!

Damn, what a steal! Guess I need to broaden my searches! LA Dismantlers wanted $3K for a '94 968 long block last Friday in bad shape. If you find another deal like that please send me a PM I will even give you finders fee.

Back to cold air intake, I guess I still need to do a lot more research as I don't think George would have went to all the expense and trouble on this work of art if he did not feel it was absolutely necessary.

For those that have never seen before:

Thanks for sharing. Do you have link to his thread at RW? Very interesting! Definitely cooler air . In a bit over a week I will be back at the dyno and I will definitely make a run wo the filter and we shall see.

Edit: I found the thread. George D's car is a amazing for sure.
