I'm having a new pan made based on the good Renegady Hybrids design. Essentially the same pans with a wider sump.

Should have it back in ten days or so.

Yeah......

You'd still think that would be apparent on the dyno though huh?
These little things are sent to try us....

Every time I open this thread, I'm just..Wow. Tony, your car is the most bonkers 944 I've ever seen, its actually more interesting to me than the factory GTRs. Very interesting about the TT flex, seems to indicate the motor is planted firmly, else it would be trying to pop the motor up out of the car. I agree with vision that it probably doesnt want to be braced to the point it cant flex at all, that bending moment will go somewhere, to the bellhousing I'd guess if both the motor and tranny were totally rigid. Again, WOW.

The new oil pan arrived today from Renegade Hybrids.

Same diamond box/trap door design, but with an extra quart "wing" on each side.

Notice that the oil line feeds are on the side of the pan. The other side has a port for the oil temp sender and a return AN fitting to return oil from the air/oil seperator.

I don't know what they will retail them for. This was a one-off pan, but I'm sure they could make more.

My guess is around the $700 mark.

That pan would not work with my long-tube headers.

Hey Tony-
Autoclub Speedway is coming up the end of the month. Any chance you can make it out?

my first thought is a bent pan wouldn't necessarily leak being that it would be so close to true once bolted down...

could the problem be due to excess pressure inside the pan?

The torque on the oil pan bolts is very small (they are small bolts), and the pan is steel and boxed. So it's very rigid.

And we measured CFM out of the engine at red line at full load on a dyno. Only 2cfm. That's nothing.

The GM oil pan gasket has a rubber O ring and it's only about 1/8" high. So if the pan is 1/8" out of flat, that would explain the leak.

Tony's got an outdoor kitchen/grill with a view that would make lesser men weep.
Weather's been great as usual around here...he's probably scorching cow flesh daily.

*** 7.19.14 Update ***

I've been through engine hell and back. If you only all knew....

Long story short... we had to pull the new engine out and apart. All 8 of the pistons had experienced a lean condition with a ton of predetonation. This resulted in all of the top rings being fused to the piston.

Oddly ... the leak down wasn't bad and it made 547RWHP.

But the engine was leaking oil everywhere.

Fighting oil leaks, I ended up with some super trick Katech valve covers , a custom Renegade Hybrids 8 quart Pan with a 3/8" flange which we cut down on a Blanchard Grinder to make sure it had a perfect seal.

Then when it has no place to leak from... poof... out goes the rear main seal.

So, a new set of pistons later, larger injectors, and several hours on the chassis dyno.... zero smoke out the exhaust, <2% leak down, and 576RWHP and 507RWTQ.

Now were talking very much in modified LS7 territory :-)

The engine sounds much crisper and just vicious.

Going to the track on Tuesday and presuming no engine problems.... back to Vision for the next round of work.

For your 396" Stroker LS3 viewing pleasure.....

TonyG
