Weekly update.

Went up to the track again tonight. Havn't touched the tune or even installed a boost controller. Only thing I've done is replace one outer axle flange due to a couple of broken bolts when trying to tighten them up.
With all 6 bolts in each functioning properly, I decided to go ahead and use the drag slicks tonight.

Made one pass right off the road after they dried the track. Went ahead and ran the street tires and went 11.91@122.

Then decided to go ahead and put the slicks and spare wheels on. I babied it off the line and went 11.93@120.5. It was a little lower mph since I babied it so much and I short shifted third which caused it to ge tout of the power band in fourth.

Next run I went ahead and gave it a little rpm off the line and it took off great. Went 11.69@122. Actually felt like it was easier on the drivetrain. I was a little squishy on the top end so I added some air to the rears.

Made another pass and tried to heat them up a little more. It hooked pretty well and went 11.6@122.5

Made another run without changing anything and went 11.69@122

then switched lanes and made another pass at 11.7@122.

There was a 10mph headwind all night.

The car performed great other than one run where my breather hose came disconnected and got some oil vapors on the downpipe. I must not have tightened that fitting.. duhh

It's doing very well for running around 15psi or under. Right now it's running around 450-470 rwhp.

I may go back up friday night and see if I can't get it to match my best ET. I think if I get the launch down better I can pick up 3 tenths pretty easy. I'm not using the 2 step yet either.

So again, what I'm most surprised at is how much smoother it feels on the drivetrain. It doesn't feel nearly as violent.

That's amazing stuff on such low Boost Sid. Yes, we need to to spend a couple hundred bucks on a new Go Pro. Hell, if we all put in @$30 you'll have it before next races. ;-)

there are vids of last week on the FB page. I went by myself last night so no video. I did have a few guys with phones at the line focusing on my car, so there will probably be something popping up on youtube.

I have my kids gopro, I just never bothered figuring it out. I'll get something.

I see tens easily in sight now.

Is there a reason why the back squats so much? Does that help grip?

Old shocks. On a small tire car, I like to get a good squat. It does help traction. I also don't like s stiff suspension for drag racing these cars. I'm not looking forward to cool overs and swapping things between each type of event.

It's also just how these old trailing arm cars work. I still get squat and I'm sure my suspension is at least triple the stiffness of yours Sid. I thought it meant more traction too but apparently all is not what it appears. Need someone more technical to explain.

In regard to drag racing, I like a soft rear suspension on a small tire and limited strength car. I wouldn't want all this squat with a car that had a strong drivetrain. It's wasted energy. You want the car going forward rather than up.

On a serious road race car, I wouldn't want much movement other than to allow enough movement to keep the other tires on the ground.

Something on my list is to do the twin arm conversion like Duke and a few select others have on their cars. While it's a bit of fabwork the parts themselves aren't expensive. I'd like to do it at the same time as an SQ gearbox...that does tend to change the land$cape though!!!

With the trailing arm suspension the negative camber increases as the car squats. If you already have an aggressive track set up then adding more negative camber will give you less straight line traction because the tires are not sitting flat.

Isn't the trailing arm just a radius arm?
On old Ford trucks with the I beam/radius arm front end, if you roll them backwards the front end drops a few inches... do 944s do that going forwards?

The inner mount is not in line with the outer mount - so the whole assembly does not rotate in line with the torsion bar.
