Hmmm, some interesting information here.
From what I read one of the prime selling point of the LS upgrade over a 2.5L is the reliable 400hp, and that even a 3.0L, will strain to make 400hp consistently and thus is not worth it. Yet I see here that Duke is effortlessly making 438hp....even effortlessly making 480+hp.......
As long as a 3.0L,16v properly built could be had for around $20k-$25k, I hardly think there is a better option to go, given those dyno charts.
Well Done, Duke, as always and thanks for sharing.

I would think for a properly done 3.0l,16v Variocam motor built to last/installed/tuned then probably, yes.
Which would put it fairly on par with an LS conversion (new engine and components to be a fair comparison with a fresh 3.0L).
I think just the motor is closer to $12k. I was referring to a turn key. but someone feel free to correct my 'guesstimate'

Three Wheelin'
It might be easier for some of us to look at in a unit other than Nm so here's a super lazy addition of a lb-ft, torque line.

Way to go! I had to blast the boost way up to get to 500rwhp with my 2.7 head -- but it sure was fun at that power level. Must be great to have that power at 17psi. Now get some race gas and see how 25psi feels.
By the way, this is inspiring me as I'm working on a new project motor...
