I also heard they couldn't keep headgaskets together on those cars much past 1 bar.

What are you expecting for a static compression with those modified pistons?

With 3mm gasket 8.0:1 with 1.9mm gasket 8.7:1. I should have had bowls machined one or two mm more..

So I have a set of the latest mahle power pack pistons with tedlon skirt coating 104.5mm 3 liter 8 valve turbo pistons however there much lighter and different design than the traditional mahle style pistons as the skirts are not 360 degrees round they have larger notches taken out for a more modern light approach. My question is, does anyone have real feedback or input as to wether these would perform well for a street/track day occasionally 400hp motor? Thanks

I had some problems with the new mahle pistons.
Cilinder walls were scratched and coating was worn.
Send them back to mahle to find out the problem, still waiting for an answer.
Maybe wrong piston rings.
We had better results with the old Mahle pistons.

Was that with stock length rods Richard? Is the pin located higher up in these newer Mahles?

Pin location looks the same as my standard 3 liter S2 units I had to compare too. I wonder if the coating they put on skirts was the problem I have heard bad things about this cheap teflon coating that many manufacturers are using. Maybe the alloy they used is not the same high silicon they used to use to match the block also wonder if it has a iron coating it looks much darker now? Swaintech also suggested I remove it and either not have a skirt coating or go with there 360 deg coating which is thinner while I'm getting the dish done with ceramic and the 2.7 head exhaust ports! Thanks for the tip I appreciate it for sure.

This happened to me aswell with the new Mahle pistons. Sent them to Mahle who did a full analysis and they said all was good with the pistons and issue was with something else. On my pistons the coating came off like old paint and I got scratches in the bores and on the skirts.
Mahle said it could be either rings, clearence issues or boreprep or a combo of all. Still not sure what was the issue.

I reused the pistons but had the coating removed and treated with coating (PC9 I Think) suitable for Nikasil and had the block Nikasil treated. Cross my fingers all with work now come spring.
