Default Removed another 8lbs from the car today. (Updated pics)

Check out the size difference.

from a 90-92 Dhiatsu. No worries. It's a Nippon Denso unit.
I have to weld up a little bit. But it will fit with very little fab and a 4 rib belt.
I'm doing this for

1. The obvious weight reason.
2. The cheaper alternator to replace
3. My old one is going to need replacing soon.
4. The almost 16lb alternator broke Weston Dillards broadfoot mount. The new one shouldn't give it anywhere near the same stress.

I'm excited. It's almost 10lbs off the engine. My goal is 30lbs total. I'm well on my way.

If you wouldn't mind could you take some pictures of the fab/weld up work you do. I knew running a smaller alternator was possible but didn't (still don't) know how much custom work goes into mounting it up to the car. I'm guessing you can use one of the existing mounting points but then have to fab up something for the other one.

Great mod. Any reasons for not choosing the Nippon Denso unit that Eniac found out about? Yours looks even smaller though.
Eniacs informative thread about his switch:

BTW, what battery do you run?

Couldn't you just transfer the pulley over and keep the OEM belt?

I don't see any reason not to switch the the pulley. These pulleys look like a much closer match then mine were. The one that came on my Nissan alternator was a larger diameter but I've had no problem using the original smaller dia. pulley. It's been over a year and about 4,000 miles since the switch.

There's no doubt this Denso unit is lighter then the Nissan alternator I choose. Weight wasn't a concern to me as much as needing the extra space and ease to install. This one does look even smaller then mine also and should hold up to the heat just as well and even better then stock.

The stock alternator is an oven inside with nowhere for the heat to go. These newer styles have large open cooling fins and plates inside to disappate heat more effectively.

On a street application, I'd be inclined to use the standard size pulley. On a track car where you are generally running high revs, I think a larger pulley is a good idea.

Used this unit strictly to get one as small and light as possible.
I have A/C delete so my fab work won't apply to those that do have A/C-most of you.
Slightly larger pullry diameter. very close. I don't think the underdrive pulley would be much different or worse.
besides alt center shaft is smaller than stock, not an easy pulley swap.
And why would I do that when the new 4 rib will be more than capable. easy to buy at local parts house and a whole 2oz lighter!? - yes I measured

The alternator set-up, or the WHOLE setup!?
if so, flattering
If you mean everything, I would love to set you up with what I have, but I would improve on a few points. phone conversation only there.

Not saying it would not work but that's a a 50 amp and 944's use a 105 or 115 amp. If it's for a track only car and you don't have any headlights/ac, it should be ok.
